By voting with our wallets it (the original commenter) would reply, ignoring the fact that a lot of people would have to opt with going without because they either don't have any other choice or the other choice(s) are basically the same.
"I told her flatly that the solution is to *never* put *anything* on Facebook that you don't want the world to know."
I'd make a more general argument. Never put anything on the internet that you don't want the world to know. If it's needed then proceed with great caution when choosing the service you'll be using and possibly include your own encryption.
Amen. Poor security practices and pure disdain for privacy is pretty much the norm. Unless we start dealing with it seriously it'll be outrage after outrage as these practices come into light.
That industry apathy is anchored firmly into the public own apathy when it comes to actually demand fixes. Until it becomes catastrophic.
The lengths people go for a good trolling. I witnessed a master.
No, seriously, it doesn't seem the guy is a bigoted asshole. It should have been taken as the joke it is. Context matters. There are plenty of content out there making fun of Nazi stuff (including Jewish people) and true bigots, I hope they prosecute all. Won't hold my breath though.
Ooooo, retroactively you say? This should be very, very interesting. Let it pass. Then let's all go after Facebook with blood in the eyes. We'll see how fast they start pushing back hard via all means possible.

"Pretend theft and violence CANNOT be good."
Says the holder of all truth. Do you play video games? If you do I might stop just in case. I mean, I don't want to be like you, ever, so I won't take risks.
Now, it had to be Uber. I hope they deal with it well and don't screw everybody with shady practices leading to some catastrophic failure.
Gotta keep an eye on how this will develop. I'm hoping it was some sort of negligence by the pedestrian. I'm not trying to blame the victim or take the death lightly but if it's something with the tech it's gonna be a blow to autonomous cars.
So just a recap: the MAFIAA (which includes Hollywood) has tried to use children, blind people, war vets and now victims of sex trafficking to advance their rotten goals one way or another, people and broader consequences be damned. I'm left wondering who is the disease here /s
Pirates are people like anybody else. And they can be simply awesome if treated like people, not like criminals. I am a pirate, I've downloaded shitloads of stuff. And I've bought a shitload of stuff because I was able to experience them through my pirating and even just because I decided people were worthy of my money like Notch when confronted with piracy (bought the game and never played it because it's simply not my type of game).
That's what I thought when I read the article. A lot of people are limited to Google as well. They think they need to go to Google to get to their favorite sites as if they were part of Google. I'm not sure how to improve this situation without making a medicine that is worse than the disease but it is concerning.
I was worried these days that I've been reading less books than in the past and started discussing with a friend why I was reading less. That's when I realized I'm not reading less, I'm reading tons and tons more than before because of the Internet. I have much more knowledge at the tip of my fingers. I made some rough calculations and I've reached the conclusion I'm reading at least 10 times more "books" than in my teens if I consider articles, studies and books and separate them roughly in 300 page books. Except those books are happening right now as well, being researched as I read what's produced.
Live by the legislative sword, die by the legislative sword. I want to see the telcos beg the FCC to reinstate the rules to avoid the looming lawpocalypse. I hope no dreadful bill makes it way into law at the federal level before the mid-terms. Then we'll start talking.
Yahoo would be dead if it wasn't acquired. Kinda sad to see one of the biggest tech companies of yesterday slipping so low. And I'm not even talking about its new owners ;)

Re: Actually, retroactive is okay when content is criminal NOW.
Says the guy who not only doesn't understand but seems to have a deep aversion in even trying to learn.
You cannot criminalize something and punish things that happened before the law took force. This is unconstitutional in any democracy.

It all depends on perspective. If you are Ajit Pai then the answer is "nothing" with your underpants full of telco/isp money.

And you ignore that almost all crashes were not caused by the autonomous vehicles. If not all.
"Just a matter of time until unfixable flaws show up."
No such thing. There will be flaws, they are always in the path of development. I do hope most people developing them and making laws aren't like you.
I'd rather have autonomous cars all around. Their failure rates will be much lower than humans, that's guaranteed.
