To add to PaulT's comments, this blog has a strong line of "Connecting with Fans" as a useful business model - and kneecapping them is not the recommended method...
The point here is that in the UK, unlike with car rentals, the author *is* paid for every borrow. He's just whining about getting less money for every borrow, even though some of those wouldn't have bought, and others have gone on and bought lots.
He already does. He just wants to get paid more. He's making the classic copyright maximalist error of thinking that every library 'read' is a 'lost sale'.
Re: Re: And? ... AND? -- Why should the reader worry?
Maybe I'm just a jaundiced Euro-'socialist', but my experience of capitalism leads me to actually agree with OotB on this one - the purest form of capitalism does seem to lead to oligarchs and government circle-jerks, whilst screwing everyone else and the world about them.
Certainly, this is as 'pure' a form of capitalism as the 'pure' communism/socialism the US right-wingers accuse everyone left of Rush Limbaugh/Pryan Fischer of espousing...
Re: Gosh, it's the old one "botched" anomaly means "do away with all copyright" theme!
Since this is news that just happened, not something that Mike 'sat on' for a while, you are just blowing out of your arse as usual.
Seriously, how do you get from "conflating copyright and trademarks" to "do away with all copyright"? Can you even do reading comprehension? Looks like *you* are the one who shoehorns your agenda into every post, only with less evidence.
Well, it certainly doesn't look like it was trying to maximise content controllers income, especially well past what was normal human lifespan in those days.
Essentially, copyright has spent 200 years expanding past all the original limits of what it encompassed and how long it lasted - and now it's finally met a 'force' strong enough to push back, hard - and it's whining like crazy about losing its monopoly rents. And I have as much sympathy for them as I would have for wartime price gougers complaining because prices are normalising after a war.
So Tim Berners-Lee 'invented' hyperlinks which are 'purposefully involved' in reproducing copyrighted material on IsoHunt, so he's guilty of 'inducement' ('precise nature' is irrelevant). Classy!
Re: Re: Re: It is important to stop piracy at ANY cost
Depends if they sentence you to death via Bieber songs - imagine having to be frontstage at all of his concerts! You'd beg to crushed by stampeding fantoddlers...
No worse that whichever of the Carolinas wants to legislate away sea level rise. Especially when there is a 'hot spot' of increased sea level rise on the East Coast...
That is hardly 'evil', especially if you know they are doing it. And it is miles away from what Rep Gormless is accusing them of (sending email details and contents to advertisers) - something his own government is most likely guilty of itself via the NSA!
Why are you using the fruits of state violence (an internet largely paid for and created through 'taxes') at all then? Please bugger off to somewhere remote; do not use the state road system though as that is also the 'fruit of state violence'.
Sheesh, can someone please buy a large island we can ship all the fundie-libertarians too so they can enjoy the 'fruits' of a libertarian dystopia?
