Re: Winter Olympics and Summer Olympics are quite different
Personally I find the Winter Olympics far more interesting to watch. It may have something to do with the fact that, unlike any the Summer games, many of these events involve crazy speeds and the real risk of serious injury or worse...
This "public" you speak of is actually a much, much smaller group than the actual public. Most people do not hate Google, even if they've become more wary of them.
"Dissenting views here are hidden from view because you simply don't like the fact that someone has a different opinion."
Obviously you have a very high opinion of both your own comments and the effectiveness of "hiding" a comment behind one mouse click. Here's a heads-up: you're wrong on both counts.
"Just because you prefer one service, that doesn't mean the other service is somehow less available."
So as asked above, does that mean you think people should have to sign up to multiple services in order to get the range or movies they want? Can you honestly not see how nobody wants to do that? It would be expensive and inconvenient, the exact opposite of what the studios are claiming.
"Anyone that encourages removing rights from artists, while carrying water for mega-naire deviants like Eric Schmidt and Kim Dotcom has a special place in hell awaiting him."
So now you're going to throw a bit of hyperbolic religious fundamentalism into this argument? I guess I shouldn't be surprised. If you believe in one faith-based dogma it's no surprise you'd believe in another.
"...but the Copyright Clause makes clear that giving authors the choice of refusing to license is consistent with its purpose."
Feel free to post the text of the Constitution that explains how refusing to license promotes arts and science. If it's as clear as you claim this should be pretty easy.
"The “jeopardy to hundreds of human lives and millions of dollars of property inherent in the pirating or blowing up of a large airplane” outweighs the slight intrusion of a generic body scan or, as a secondary measure, a pat-down."
Wait, did they just use actual meaning of the term 'pirating'? Or did they really mean illegally copying an airliner?
"I respect the author's/proprietor's choice. I don't want to take it away."
And right there is the strawman argument you were accused of making earlier. Nothing in this article talks about taking away authors' choices, it only encourages them to consider making other choices that may be of great benefit of them.
"This nation is doomed short of blood in the streets."
But did you read what Hosko claimed?
"He suggested that it would take a major event, such as a terrorist attack, to cause the pendulum to swing back toward giving authorities access to a broad range of digital information."
That sounds like the nation is doomed if there is blood in the streets. Because you know any violent push-back by the citizenry will immediately be labeled terrorism and responded to accordingly.
"...giving away an album no one wanted or asked for."
Actually I'm pretty due there are many thousands of U2 fans who are pretty happy about it. Don't protect your musical opinions on everyone else, they don't count for much.
"True, imposing any tort liability on Internet Brands for its role as an interactive computer service could be said to have a “chilling effect” on the internet, if only because such liability would make operating an internet business marginally more expensive."
Actually it not more expensive at all, at least in the implied monetary terms. In fact it's quite cheap to not allow public participation, or not even start a website, out of the fear of undeserved liability.
Whoever wrote that clearly has no idea what the term chilling effect actually means.
"For the most part, it seems to be a game of "lead the officer to do something bad" or "trick the officer into saying something that could be considered objectionable"."
Are you saying that officers are so poorly trained and/or unable to control themselves, that they just have to "do something bad"? Shouldn't we expect them to be better than that?
"Most of what you see online is filmed up close, in your face, and often in a confrontational manner."
Because the officer approached the person filming them and tried to force them to stop do something they perfectly entitled to do, often in a confrontational manner. So no surprises there.
"I am all in favor of recording cops from a reasonable distance and not getting involved."
You're not very convincing on that point...
"Once the camera person becomes a distraction or starts to cause a scene themselves, they aren't helping anyone."
Actually if the officer is distracted by being filmed, and a scene is caused by said officer, it's entirely likely the recording will be helpful, because it'll show everyone what actually happened.
