"Every day, they act as the proverbial Big Brother, and 2021 looks an awful lot like the fictitious 1984."
Mmmm irony... tasty tasty irony.
This is the man who told people to not believe their own eyes or ears but only to listen to Big Pumpkin right?
This is the man who sent his paramilitary force to harass & intimidate someone who spoke truth?
This is the man responsible for a huge number of deaths during his entire tenure & then threatened to close a vaccination site if they weren't nice to him?
This is the man who killed his citizens to appease Big Pumpkin pretending the pandemic was just an evil Soros plot?
This is the man who allowed multiple super spreader events because the economy mattered more than lives?
Is he a cop?
They are the only ones who can willfully kill this many people and not get charged.
If you lie to citizens & it leads to their death.... that should be a crime right?

"A platform company could also abuse gatekeeping power – to promote its own products and services, to lock in users from leaving for other platforms, and so on."
You mean like banning community broadband?
Like banning 1 touch make ready?
Like allowing them to lock specific buildings into 1 carrier options?
Like allowing them to lie about speeds, availability, uptime with no penalties?
Big Tech is the whipping child for the GQP whining that they have been silenced, while ignoring the real reason. They trained an AI to flag & remove hat speech... I couldn't tell the GQP from NeoNazis.
Elected officials are used to having platforms that never challenge them, even as they are clearly lying.
Along comes Big Tech who kept hearing all about how fake news was so bad... so they started removing fake news... funny how that managed to "cancel" some GQP members.
The GQP hides behind the 'its because I'm conservative' sign, refusing to admit its because I am a spineless liar who will repeat whatever it takes to keep Trump from Primarying me.
Much like the 230 battle, the biggest problem is what people imagine it is about.
They refuse to find actual facts, preferring rumor & outright lies to support their position.
The government sucks at immediate solutions to immediate problems. (Patriot Act anyone?)
Because it is the rush to act first & maybe in 10 yrs decide it might have been bad but we've done it this long might as well keep doing it.
Once upon a time they would do studies & get actual data to show what drove their decisions, now its they picked on me we need to break them up!!!!!!
Maybe the simplest solution would be my bill that makes elected officials who lie get horsewhipped. (Yes I am well aware many of them probably pay sex workers extra for this on their private time) One has to hope that being called out & actually punished for lying might make some of them stop, otherwise we can all watch the must-watch tv spectacle of the televised whipping of the liars on friday nights.
If they can't define the actual problem using actual evidence, perhaps there isn't really the problem they claim. Maybe a few lashes will teach them to hold their tongue & think before they speak.

But without IP nothing would ever be created!!!!!
We have to pay these people who have these sketchy loose definitions of processes that can cover all sorts of things!
There are multiple patents on making a PB&J, the fact that USTPO keeps pretending that the patent trolls are just sour grapes from others while the rest of us can look at these overly broad patents that should never have been issued, according to the USPTO's own rules, that are only used in litigation and call a troll a troll.
Rounded Rectangles should never have gotten a patent.
Any patent issued covering something modeled after the underpants gnomes business model...
Phase 1: Get broad stupid patents.
Phase 2: Do nothing with them.
Phase 3: Extortion
Once upon a time it was to hard to get a patent, then magically everyone could get a patent on everything.
Perhaps it is time to try the non-binary solution of actual review in a reasonable amount of time & reject the overly broad.
We need to stop allowing regulation to be undermined by people loyal to those being overseen, its happened all over the government & its harming the nation. Of course the .1% are happy with how this is going so of course no politician cares, maybe we should remind them that no matter how much is donated to them we can still vote them out.

Yet these purse string holding legislators, who were worried someone might get an undeserved $2000, seem to have no problem with doling out millions in fake charges & clawing back a pittance to make the rubes think they care.
Its not a fine or a penalty unless it is on top of full repayment of what they stole, then magically they might learn the lesson.
Instead we just keep handing them money & going through the motions.

If they were in the same industries, I could see the reasoning.
(See the story about the stupid little brand that claimed Ocean Spray time traveled to steal the mark they stole from Ocean Spray covered here recently).
But when you are a technology company suing a grocery store over fruit shape that only is similar in that people would say they are both fruit but different looking... ehhhhhh
You make a tv show based on historical figures then suddenly claim your trademark over the entertainment market covers booze.
What is unsaid here but well I have a feeling is the delay in the filing was because they were trying to get a cut from the booze maker.
Oh your only popular because of our show so you should pay us... descendant of one of the historical figures we fictionalize.
Imagine if someone clarified the law to head off these our trademark is for shoes but that means we have to sue that soup company on the other side of the planet.
I mean isn't Monster a great example of a trademark bully claiming to own the work monster in every single industry despite them not holding the mark in those industries because they don't participate in them & not filed any paperwork claiming they will be.

If Mandabach's customers indulge in enough of Sadler’s product, they then might be inebriated enough to connect the two.
Of course given the expansion of imaginary rights one might wonder if the descendant has a case to sue over portraying the family in a less than favorable light.

The ever popular they must of hacked us, it can't be because we are incompetent.
One does wonder whats in the files they haven't looked at yet, for them to try to pretend you can put the genie back into the bottle, there are things there they want no one to see & ask questions about.
Sounds like some outside independent agency needs to pull out their magnifying glass & find what they were trying to hide so hard they blew the peoples money on bullshit claims.
That Anonymous Coward (profile), 21 May 2021 @ 1:41am
Funny they have no issue with these leaks when they do them pointing out the victim had once pissed on a tree in the park when he was 8 and that totally justifies us killing him.
Last one was a woman in her 80's or 90's accused of doing horrible things to the cops who beat the crap out of her they found a 4rd cousin who once visits the Bundy compound to make her look scary.

And the fact that many of the extortionists are actually scammers & the punishment 99% of the time is nothing, why wouldn't actual scammers want to get paid too?
I mean we have a Judge ruling that the mere allegation of having downloaded is enough to terminate your internet without any due process.

They do still care, because if someone makes something remotely like it they claim ownership over it and demand a cut.
Of course this thought process has lead to them having the left hand paying the right hand for stealing the "feel" of music as opposed to anything copyright actually covers.
Just because they think they bled it dry, they will not let go of it. There might be a few more cents they can get.

Re:
stares in have you not been paying attention
A woman who did not own a computer was shaken down by a 'legit' scammer claiming she downloaded a movie.
The 'scammer' threatens to tell your neighbors you are being investigated for downloading CP or bestiality videos.
A grandmother was accused of downloading a hyper-violent white power movie in Germany, she was fined.
There was the "legit' company who was using their settlement website to increase their payoff by getting people to admit guilt & then adding more claims against them.
Perhaps if the law hadn't created an entire cottage industry of legit scammers, people could spot the scams easier.
I do enjoy the completely self centered view point of its other peoples problems rather than admitting that the entire topic is completely screwed up & gives rise to actual scammers.
We have people falling victim to all sorts of scams all the time & rather than finding out why we can just call them stupid and move on. It's their fault they were fooled, not that they are using tactics amazingly similar to "real" tactics.
So while you are busy blaming the victims, what sins are you trying to distract us from?
