Is there liability on the part of these Paywall enforcers
I believe the Houston nurse infected with ebola is suing because of lack of proper information.
I truly believe that there are some decision makers in some companies that would rather have a 100,000 people die from a curable disease than losing profits.
You have a point. When there isn't any form of social correction built into a cultural institution the human populace of that institution will gravitate to their baser nature. (Baser nature being defined as acts and thoughts one would do if they held ultimate power and no consequences.)
you wrote my thoughts well. I was hoping to see self correction due to social media.
Gamergate, Indiana's Freedom of Religion law, or Hilliary's emails, and et al nauseum. It seems to me that we have an over-abundance of activists waiting to bring the wrath of God down on someone all the time now days.
I typical attribute this behavior to dissatisfied people. So do Americans in general feel like they were promised something other than what they got?

except where an individual can affect their bottom line. As consumers we have some power, and corporations do whatever they can to work the system to motivate us to make themselves more profitable. (If you believe otherwise you're naive.) If you understand their motivation then you can grasp their agenda.
So the more faith you, as an individual, place in the words of a corporation the more you're a part of their machinations to game the system.
Why do we expect anything different from a police state?
Anyone who isn't making or enforcing laws is a criminal, or potential criminal. In the police administration's view the collateral damage of turning a few youth into criminals and ruining their lives is just the cost of doing business.
When you keep trying to push me to do something I want to do the opposite. That's true of this anti-net-neutrality rhetoric flooding the media. There has been so much push back against the FCC net neutrality that I'm for it no matter what and more so because I think in doing so makes these anti-net neutrality people upset.
I'm waiting until the unintended consequences come to light and some enterprise soul figures out how to use the Net Neutrality issue to make bank. When that happens it'll shut up the ISPs as the try and scramble to save their bacon.
to legally questionable practices when it knows in doing so will keep it out of trouble politically.
In government the unelected power brokers play a game. They assess each other's clout in terms of the political climate and either move to draw more power unto themselves or bide their time until the climate is more favorable for a power grab.
As a former government employee I would like every reader to know that the primary job of every government agency is to secure funding. And in politics there is a power game that is played out in cycles as their "team" either has the power or loses the power. Below the appointee level is a very powerful level of unelected officials who really control government. Everyone (from the President to mid level managers) in the game knows who they are and makes sure not to be their enemy. Almost nothing gets done in government without using these power broker's clout, either one side or the other.
People are talking about this issue. The spooks just spy for spying sake and this means trying to one-upping other spies. Do they bring any value at all to the common man?
If we analyze the cost/benefit of spying I'm thinking the value provided to 99% of the world's population is going to turn out to be less than zero.
Snowden started this ball rolling and that was the real danger described by NSA hand-wringers. They know they can't justify their actions and that funding is in danger.
So before the 99% goes on another class-war crusade against the 1% the spy agencies need to be crippled financially in a major way.
Their actions make believe that this is the norm for T.U.. I wonder how much other dirt is covered up there. In recent news (last couple of months) many schools have been found to harbor sexual predators. Some schools don't report (this I know first hand) and so I'm guessing there is much more dirt at this school then a bit of Streisand-ish behavior over a troll post.
Possibly Kitzhaber didn't read about the magically appearing IRS emails.
I work IT and email backups for discovery has been an issue since the '90s. Meaning an IT department who doesn't keep back-ups of email is likely to have their butts handed to them in court.
Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and others, are probably just a figurehead for a machine that is their brand. The grunts that make up the machine probably handle much of day-to-day decision making process of whether to sue or not.
