There are two key words in the copyright clause of the US Constitution
"To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries."
The key words are authors and inventors. Not copyright or patent owner. Too bad the courts and congress chose to ignore that part.
I continually wonder how much money could have been saved if they made no investment into DRM. The DRM is pointless because it is broken so quickly. Those who want to pirate it will pirate it whether it has DRM or not. Those who want to buy it will buy it or have second thoughts if the DRM is too draconian. DRM that is too draconian has led to people to take the pirate option and leave the legitimate user with all the headaches of the DRM.
This is what I have been saying for about 15 years now. The big picture of big media's crusade is to prevent artist from working directly with the consumer. Thus bypassing the publishers. The internet allows it and they seek to destroy it by whatever means necessary or gain full control of it.
And it is
The fault is ours, but it is not as you describe. We keep reelecting the same corrupt politicians every two or six years. Many say they are the only option on the ballad. Not true in all cases. Some have ballads have a "never heard of him/ her" type person listed on the ballads. But as elections come around again, we become these programmable drones to elect the familiar name. Then a month after the election we get pissed off at them again and the cycle continues.

That same tactic could likely be used here too. A grassroots rival against a powerful incumbent. If that incumbent has the right ties, force base-less take-downs of their websites. Eventually, they are found to be baseless and the domain is returned, but the damage has already been done. The incumbent is reelected and the grassroots runner was silenced.
At a former employer of mine back in late 90's (a super market). I found an employee cleaning out the large trash cans. As I entered to rear docking area, I noticed him pouring Clorox bleach in the trash can along with a half empty large jug of Mr. Clean multi-purpose cleaner. "STOP!" I was too late. I ran to him grabbed the trash can and flung it outside the docking area. I then called 911. The store was evacuated and Haz-Mat showed up. I'll never forget that burning feeling in my eyes and nose.
With what Disney has announced at the end of the year, streaming services and their content may become so fragmented that it is no longer cost effective to get what you want. All Disney, Marvel and Star Wars content will be pulled from Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime so that Disney can start their own streaming service. So what if A&E, Viacom, TBS, Discovery, etc. each start their own? Each with their own monthly fee. The cord-cutting may no longer be practical.
I see this as a valid tactic by the RIAA because a service outside one's home is being used to rip the audio from the stream. If the RIAA began targeting applications which people install on their system, then the RIAA would be violating the Home Audio Recording Act because the stream comes from outside the home. Like a radio or TV broadcast. A program on the user's home PC is used to capture the audio stream. Like a VCR or cassette recorder.
I meant that it should be full name in all trademarks. "Monster Cable" "Apple Computers" "Candy Crush" "Edge Games"
Formal name of Apple Apple Computer Company (1976–1977) Apple Computer, Inc. (1977–2007)
Formal name of Monster "Monster Cable Products Inc." yet they sue anyone or anything with the word "Monster" in it. Perfect example of a TM troll. The think that we are so stupid you'll think they're part of a car transmission shop, or a used clothing store, or a bunch of minigolf courses, or a Pixar movie, or a job search website.
One of the big problems with the craft beer trademark wars is that they seem to think that each separate word or number in their name is trademarked. It needs to be exclusively the full name. For instance, Company A's Velvet Hammer should not claim trademark infringement over company B's Sledge Hammer and Company C's Velvet Ale.
