PK only had $1,000 to offer. They didn't have enough to hire professionals. For an entirely free contribution, on a depressing subject with no guarantee of even winning the $1,000, I think it's pretty good.
And yeah, that Free Software relies on copyright to compel the opening of source code, has turned many Free Software advocates into supporters of copyright. If copyright were abolished, they'd have to find another way to compel revealing source code - so they're pro-copyright.
-ND has nothing to do with misattribution. The -BY clause does. CC-BY and CC-BY-SA are both Free and "protect" attribution with legal force (for fans of State force, which I'm not). -ND prohibits any modifications even if you attribute them correctly.
-ND prohibits building on works regardless of attribution. Notice my example in the article.
If you are concerned about proper attribution, CC-BY and CC-BY-SA are both Free licenses that you can use to threaten others with legal force, if you really believe that's necessary for correct attribution, which it isn't anyway.
I grew up in the US during the Cold War, where our media always compared us to the repressive Soviet Union, and made a big deal about welcoming brave fleeing artists who could be "free" here as they couldn't there. When it recently looked like I might have to flee the US to make my own art, I thought about that. When I see people going to jail for sharing information, I think about that. When I think of Bradley Manning and WikiLeaks, I think about that. When I stand in long lines waiting to be scanned and groped at the airport, when my friends are prevented from traveling because they don't have the right "papers," when every building in New York is guarded by ineffective underpaid security theater guards, I think about it. I think about it every day. Oh, how the mighty have fallen - but our hollow self-righteousness remains.
(a) you shouldn't actually do that, (b) you may be at risk for legal action if you do that, depending on what you do with the mislabeled works, and (c) it's a pretty bad idea to tell people to do something and that there will be no legal consequences, if you don't really know that much about the law.
(a) I totally agree, you shouldn't do that.
(b) I would like to know more about these legal consequences. What would happen if I claimed I wrote Hamlet - didn't assert copyright (copyfraud) on it, just claimed I wrote it?
(c) You are correct! I think we agree that copyright law wouldn't govern any consequences - I should have clarified that.
