Oh, everyone knows that, don't they? The DOJ's primary mission is to act as an enforcement arm for the RIAA/MPAA, not to waste time on drug smugglers, interstate crime, protection of the President, or any other trivial things.
"Government IP officials" are merely employees of the entertainment industry who are "working" for the government. The whole thing is simply a corporate attempt to block "piracy", which is simply impossible. I am pretty sure that there are zero people in the group who have the slightest interest in the rights of consumers; all consumers are assumed to be thieves.
way way too many cops don't want to be recorded on the job - they know full well that they are using excessive force or making unlawful arrests and they don't want to be caught. They want to prevent another Rodney King incident by preventing anyone from recording it, not preventing another brutal beating; they believe they are fully within their rights to beat the crap out of anyone, especially a person of color, and no one should be able to challenge a beating, or killing.
it amazes me that so many judges ignore conflict of interest and simply rule in favor of their former employers. The same thing happens to attorneys - they work for the RIAA/MPAA, then get jobs in the DOJ, and of course the DOJ starts to become simply an enforcement arm for the RIAA/MPAA. We've totally lost touch of something called morals. The right wing thinks that morals only involve whether or not you are in favor/opposed to abortion, and not to dealing with people.
from a judge who used to be a RIAA lobbyist is guaranteed to be in favor of copyright trolls. Often ex-lobbyists still get some form of compensation anyway, and they are not going to make any ruling that will cause them to lose that extra money.
The House just repealed the 4th amendment. I thought that would require consent of 2/3 majority of the state legislatures.
Himmler and Beria would really be proud of the House of Representatives.
The SCOTUS will definitely approve it - there will be some nice fat gifts involved. Wonder how much you have to pay to get a favorable decision from SCOTUS? Cash? Drugs? Hookers? Offshore real estate? Stock?
and the other government spooks and non-federal cops care very little about whether or not their actions are legal or not. If they want to seize a server for whatever reason they concoct some wild idea and then go ahead and do what they please. They know full well they will most likely get away with it and the worst that will happen is some un-bribed judge will toss it out.
aren't worth watching anymore. It's no longer about sports, it is about money. It's absolutely ridiculous the way the sponsors are allowed to do all kinds of stupid things. the way to win in the olympics is to spend huge amounts of money on specialized training, finding the right food/drug combinations that enhance performance while evading olympic drug rules, and doing anything you can to hurt your opponents.
know full well how to use bribery to get what they want. They simply promise employment to key people to make sure things happen, then when the key people leave the government they get cushy jobs at huge salaries. This might not fit some people's definition of bribery, but the intent is bribery plain and simple. We have a government that is owned by businesses and the rich and money talks and gets results in Congress, the White House, the federal courts and the SCOTUS as well. It's part of the culture that we have come to accept and expect and people aren't willing to do anything about it.
that hearing aids and other medical devices don't benefit from the economy of scale. Apple cuts the cost of Macs, iPads, and iPhones by making millions of them. If you are making them in the low hundreds or a few thousand, then the cost would be much much higher.
It doesn't matter if you call it bribery or extortion - it's illegal, but it is so common and so ingrained into our culture that there is no way to stop it. Congress, the White House, and the judiciary can't survive without the infusion of money and drugs and hookers that are provided by lobbyists.
The only difference is that in the U.S. we call it lobbying, other countries simply call it bribery.
This state is becoming so crazy that I fear to go there. The cops do racial profiling, don't accept out-of-state ID, can demand papers from anyone, and can jail you if they think you are an illegal alien. Now this? How do the people elect such idiots? Are the business backers sitting at the polling sites and giving people $5 each for their votes? Isn't that illegal?
It boggles my mind at what's coming next from that state.
I can't imagine going there for a vacation anymore.
Is this threat shown in all books you buy from Amazon and download to the Kindle? I've been interested in the Kindle, but when I read that Amazon can suddenly and without explanation, remove any book you purchased I decided it wasn't worth considering the Kindle seriously. If I order a book from B&N or Amazon and it gets delivered via UPS/USPS to my house, then there is no way for B&N or Amazon to suddenly take it away without breaking and entering and getting past Angel, my 90 pound territorial German Shepherd, plus winning the contest against a Glock 9mm.
