you take the age of the older person on the relationship, divide it by two and add 5. if the younger person's age is equal to or less than the resulting number, the relationship is creepy.
so if you are 20 and your mate is an age that is greater than 15, not creepy.
if you are 50 and your mate is an age that is greater than 30, not creepy.
if you are 70 and your mate is less than 41, you are creepy.
the whole point of advertising is to lie to people to get them to buy your crappy products.
the whole point of telecommunications is to take large amounts of money from governments, corporations, and consumers while delivering as little as possible.
competition would lower the amount of money that could be stolen while increasing the amount of quality and service to be delivered.
i really don't understand why a telecom would willingly to engage in such a profit threatening activity as competition.
isn't that the reason they spend all of that money to buy politicians and legislation?
john gunn takes money from companies that are afraid of losing money. of course he's going to act like the world is full of pirates laying in wait to snatch everyone's money and conveniently ignoring the fact that most piracy is non-commercial.
he needs companies to believe that so they will buy his crappy software.
but let's look at the reality. we automatically assume that a given piece of software will not work as advertised, that music will be terrible, and that a movie will be awful. we do this because we have all been taken advantage of by companies that sell crappy goods. we pirate things because we choose not to gamble our money on things that may not live up to their advertising hype.
john gunn is one of those purveyors of crappy goods. in fact, since DRM doesn't work, and does nothing to stop piracy, i would assert that he is a purveyor of the crappiest of goods.
he just wants money from companies that take our money. they swindle us and he swindles them. this rabid stance against the piracy boogieman is just part of his con game.
the truth is that it is impossible to prevent piracy and anyone who tell you differently is selling something.
So, I played it, I got sucked into it and beated it because it was just that good. I only meant to play a small bit, then and, if it was good, I'd definitely buy it when I go to the stores. If it wasn't, well, I'd just uninstall it then.
I went to the stores anyway, found this Quake Pack, which had Quake I, II, and III and bought it. ID software still made money, and I got games that were a good investment of my money.
So, wouldn't this be a Win-Win?
no, you should have bought quake I, quake II, quake III, and then bought the quake pack and then bought copies for your friends so you can play networked games together.. sure ID made money on the quake pack, but not nearly as much as if you bought each game twice.
Hey, you live in my Area.. Insight definitely rocks :) I only have 10mb, but the 20 has tempted me on a few occasions.
the problem with insight is uplink speed. you only get somewhere between 200k and 600k up. i would gladly trade half my download speed to double my uplink (5mbps down and 2mbs up).
I think 7MB is a bit extreme. I would say that around 1.5-2.0 MB should easily qualify as broadband. That covers the vast majority of everything a person does online, and it certainly covers any educational "needs."
it says 7mbps in the brochure, but i guarantee you that you will never see 7mbps. i guarantee you that you will never see 3.5mbps
my cable company (insight communications, northern kentucky) says i connect at 10mbps and while downloads are fast, i barely get 8mbps on a speed test with cincinnati or chicago.
what i think the minimum should specify is not the advertised speed, but the actual service. I.E. if you provide broadband service, and your customers don't see the minimum (768down, etc.) you get shut down by the FCC.
the standard for the speed test can be open and published, and the FCC can conduct "speed audits" at residences and businesses to keep providers honest.
i barely have room on two pages for my military service, why would you mention video games for anything other than a video game related position?
if you ask me, running a guild qualifies you to be a leader about as much as owning a cat qualifies you to be a nurse. most guild leaders i have met are just lightning rods for the incessant whining, complaining, and needless drama that comes from groups of people with nothing better to do.
i have a verizon Qm and for a windows mobile device it's not bad. it's probably the cheapest windows mobile device out there.
i also had a razr and it was a good phone: decent size, decent battery life, bluetooth. but it was next to worthless for text messaging and pretty much anything other than making phone calls. i replaced it with the Q.
most people didn't like the Q because they are used to PDA's with stylus screens, or blackberries. the Q is windows mobile and a qwerty keyboard with an interface that acts like a mobile phone and not a PDA.
it's unfortunate that they are abandoning windows mobile, but i am intrigued by the prospect of a moto android.
the value Steam adds seems to far outweigh the minor DRM they have (a check in for the first time you play a game/install)
ever tried to play a steam game right after you install it?
ever had steam crash and decide it needs to download all of it's updates at 21kb/sec?
ever had to re-install steam and had it need to re-validate all 12 of your games?
in every case you will be locked out of your games until steam deems you worthy.
steam is also perpetually out of date. i got left4dead 5 days after release and ended up locked out of it for most of a day while it and steam updated. how can a game be out of date 5 days after release?
steam is the best implementation of game DRM in history of DRM and it still sucks ass. as long as there is chance that a user can get locked out of or otherwise denied access to media/applications that were legitimately purchased, then you are pissing off your users (3) adding value to pirated versions (2), end of story.
also, left4dead had already been cracked and is on the public trackers, so clearly even steams DRM doesn't work (1).
if valve can't get it right, i am fairly confident that no one can.
They're hoping and praying that the Novell decision is overturned on appeal. Otherwise they won't have anything to show for the years of litigation, and no real way to continue their vendetta against Linux.
microsoft "renews" their system v "license" with sco regularly. since MS is legendary for dirty tricks, and MS made a big show of buying their license in 2001 or 2002 (out of "respect" for the SCO patent) and MS is one of, if not the biggest of SCO's customer, i wouldn't be surprised in the least if this whole thing is just some some sort of FUD/smear campaign being financed by MS and SCO is simply the mercenary hired to do the work.
so as long as MS is still writing those checks, SCO will continue to fail loudly and publicly at this lawsuit.
the sale seems like a move to protect remaining products and customers from the fallout of SCO's collapse. maybe the new owner will switch back to caldera and start selling linux again :-)
I prefer the new dvd screeners that are not in the us theaters yet, like The Wrestler, Gran Torino was out 30 days ago, Defiance was outstanding and out 30 days ago. Why should I wait for the movie companies when a good digital copy is available, I don't have to.
those are academy award screeners. there is always a flood of them at the end of the year as the studios push them out to the members of the selection committees and they get leaked.
it seems like the price of film making has lost touch with reality.
also, if a lot of work was donated to the film, why is the budget "north of $100 million"?
no wonder the hollywood studios are in a twist over piracy, these film productions bleed cash like it's their job. surely if the costs came down, there would be more movies (and more money) to be made.
