Re: Yup, there's no way that Big Hardware and Big Search are out of touch
"But I submit that most Americans would rather have a strong copyright rule than unfettered access to all of the free content that Big Search and Big Hardware can serve up. Why? Because most Americans aren't lazy couch potatoes. They have jobs and they know that the creators are working hard. Just as they want to be paid, they know that the creators need to pay for health insurance, a roof and some food too. "
bob,
I disagree with you, I think most Americans are happy to drop some change or maybe even a bill into an artist's hat or guitar case...until the economy tanks or they have to pay for their children to have braces. Then they walk by an think to themselves, "why doesn't this guy get a job?"
Your mistake is believing that because your art is the most valuable thing in the world to you, others MUST place equal value on it. We do not.
Easy way to remember passwords to forums, blogs etc....
password = (word you always use, I use password) (followed by a number you remember say birth year of grandson) (then the site name)
so in this example my passwords would be:
Techdirt = password2006TD
Salt Lake Tribune = password2006trib
random blog = password2006RB
This works pretty good and you can camelcase if you want to mix it up. I don't use these strategies for sites that I use my personal information or credit cards etc...
"Ha ha ha! Thanks big brother. I must have missed the rules you laid down. I don't see them in the FAQ either. Is this a bootable offense? Cause I always thought 'crassness' was something the crowd would take care of. "
Mike, who repeatedly goes out of his way to be polite and courteous, especially to those who disagree with and/or insult him was just pointing out to you some common sense.
Your reference to Emily Post indicates that you have at least an awareness of etiquette. Perhaps with the Thanksgiving holiday coming up you can return home and get your mother to teach you some.
While the alternatives to streaming from the cloud are all good (Thank you) they miss one big reason for moving your music or videos to the cloud, if something happens to my home server or worse my whole home I still have the cloud service.
For me that is the big motivation for shifting files to the cloud I upload documents to my skydrive and they are instantly on servers around the world.
"While it's true that copyright law creates a market for copyright, there's no economic evidence that that, in itself, is desirable."
Mike they are following your advice. The artists and movies and books are the CwF giving people a RtB copyright. But if the copyright industry lets that info out the artists and movie producers and writers may realize they are just being used and stop laying golden copyright eggs.
In my area the OTA signal is better than the compressed and sometimes distorted signal that comcrap sends out. One month of what you pay for cable will buy a good antenna. So you probably should take that out of the equation.
