It depends what he does with the money. If he donates it to charity, or finds some other constructive use for the money, then it's not a 'loss' to the taxpayer. On the other hand, given that the only language government and police departments speak involves avoiding bad publicity or large payouts, this is a good way to force them to behave in future.
Besides, how much are your constitutional rights worth? Isn't it worth a bit to stem the incessant erosion of them? Especially when that erosion actually wastes more - after all, aren't the TSA total value for money in their abrogation of your rights?
Look at any country where abortion is or was illegal. It still happened, just much more dangerously for the mother (and any supporting doctor). This is why most countries have made it legal, and just heavily control how late it can happen, and how.
It also doesn't help when your side conflates genuine birth control and abortion, or conception and implantation and viability.
I must admit, I was impressed (for once) by Fox, that they could not only grill their own, but stand up for their own people/conclusions. Sounds like they don't totally buy into the BS they often spout...
I dunno, looking at Karl Rove's meltdown, all the other Republican sources, and the slagging of Nate Silver, there did seem to be a huge lack of reality checking going on in the Republican camp.
Then they would really be taken to town for contempt of court.
Although all the fanbois would scream if Apple stopped selling in the UK, there would also be a sizeable number of people who would get annoyed at an American company trying to bully the UK legal system.
I'm pretty sure the Android/Windows sellers would love that opportunity...
Re: Remember old movies? They rotted in vaults and were lost.
Look at the BBC, so desperate to pay bounties for clips or entire episodes of old shows like Doctor Who that they had short-sightedly thrown away. Hardly complaining of copyright infringement there!
I read the original 'link' on Apple's UK website and I must say, it really seemed to go against the spirit, if not only the letter of the order against them. It was basically "We've been told to say this but other courts say in our favour so yah boo sucks!"
It is very easy to see how this could be seen as contempt. Whether or not the original order is a good idea is one thing, but Apple appealed and lost. Now they have to actually do what they were told. If this had been Samsung pulling this stunt, would Apple have thought this was an appropriate response?
The point with the UK Cineworld version is that it is valid for only one (major) chain, but you can go as many times as you like in the month. It's well worth it, and it's made me see films I otherwise wouldn't bother with as well. So when people are looking at how many 'bums on seats' saw a movie, it's advantageous there.
There's two things I think haven't been factored in here. Since it's offered by the company, they have a guaranteed cash stream, whether or not I see a movie. Even if I see loads of movies, unless I take a seat a regular paying customer would have taken, it's not really costing them money, and at least I'm looking at their advertising.
Secondly, I might buy concessions. If that's where the money is, then that's good to them. Of course, I may not, but they still don't lose out there in most cases.
That's the whole point, it's completely ridiculous. Most other countries manage without the insane % of GDP you spend. No-one is saying national defence should be free, or even cheap, but it really doesn't need to be higher than the GDP of most nations on the planet, including a number of developed ones!
Besides we're also not talking about national defence. We're talking about the 'rich' being able to buy the laws that suit them. Hardly 'laissez-faire' capitalism! Why, it's almost 'communist'! :)
