It seems the the officer had already decide that an arrest was gonna be made, just gotta do it, and any pretext was sufficient. Going so far as to spend quite some time search for justification. So it was patently ridiculous justification? So what. In officer's mind the ends justified the means. And they probably counted on qualified immunity to protect themselves from any repercussions.
AC asserts: "the Geek Squad rummages around your folders, not like they do a deep scan of your hard drive."
from the article: "In addition to these problems, the file discovered by the Best Buy tech was in unallocated space..."
Actually the Geeks HAD to do a deep scan to find the image in 'an-allocated space'. The image had been deleted, indexs removed from the FAT, but the data was still extant on the HDD.
So that's why it takes the Geeks so damn long to fix a person's PC... It takes quite it bit of time to scan every sector on their PC for elicit images.
What Kurt is claiming might be true but I see some credibility issues as well. If a person cries wolf a few times, and they turn out to be false, then who's gonna believe you when you cry wolf again and it is true. "....and later deleted his tweets claiming this....", Ahhh. damn but that really despicable, trying to un-say what has been said.
Actually I was taught that there were certain things that 'authority figures' couldn't order me to do. Not to reflexively obey. No Pavlovian conditioning please. As for parents teaching their children important life-skills.. All too often the parents don't have the skills themselves so they can't pass it on to their children.
I should of been more explicit. I was calling out Tim's use of slang. The point was directed at the author. Whatever that link was... Well I don't allow JavaScript to execute from mystery URL's so it was rendered as over-lapping text.

Slang.
Blogger Tim makes a bad impression for using slang.
