Re: Suddenly your faith in "free market" vanishes?
Yeah, the children have no clue what we started with and what we went through to build what they have today... using TWX machines as consoles until we got TV adapters and finally dedicated monitors, from acoustic couplers to X.25 ... adoption of the Hayes standard command set ... source code in magazines (even on a plastic record) ... BBS (WWIV) and finally to their beloved internet!

Don't forget...
.. from Aereo we learned that every over-the-air viewing of a free broadcast counts as piracy - so 3 million people will be getting settlement letters from our favorite IP trolls...

Seems that as RICO (Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organization) is already illegal, that LICO (Lobbyist Influenced Corrupt Organization [i.e. - Congress and Senate]) should also be illegal.

If the facts get in the way...
...dispose of them immediately.
Since SpeedTest documented that "...The US ranks sixth in the world in the cost for mobile internet and 46th in mobile internet speed. In other words, people in the US aren't getting what they're paying for. ...", and Akami documents that the US is in 14th place (and dropping) for fixed line speeds, we have to pretend to be best at something... so let's reduce our definition of broadband, use that as the basis to fake out the coverage maps and all will be fine. The more they force off landline and onto mobile, the higher the profits, and the larger the campaign contributions. And that is all that really matters to the companies and their (owned) regulators.

so, to protect me from Identity Theft, the proposal is to monitor me 24*7 - knowing exactly where I am, what store I am in or what website I am on, and *if* someone else attempts to use my credit info to make a fraudulent purchase in a different store or on a different website, they can block it because they know it isn't me...

Re:
Unfortunately, many lawyers MUST take "stupid cases" - simple logic and metrics show that there is only a certain number of legitimate legal cases per a given population; therefore "X" lawyers are needed to handle that. Law Schools exist to crank out lawyers. When the number of lawyers far exceeds the number of legitimate cases we get all kinds of entertaining cases, lawyers turning to unethical cases (Righthaven/prenda/US Copyright group...), lawyers "gaming" the system...

Not a good track record on locking/breaking
Facial Recognition: Broken with a photograph;

User-Only Gun - Broken with a Magnet;

So, I predict:
"Government Only Backdoor" - Broken prior to arrival.

Of course, "broadband" will have to be re-defined as "Any Access at All", but that doesn't seem to be an issue...
Not far from the inventors of the internet to be in last place for availability and speed and first place in price.
