Well almost. Geocities was bought up by Yahoo! and put some questionable passages in their updated Terms of Service. Plus with the bandwith limits added and HUGE adspace hijacks, most of Geocities users left the service. Yahoo!Geocities languished for a number of years afterwards. A lot of people went to the next thing - Livejournal!
While Livejournal is still around and in use, I don't know anyone personally that still uses it. Hardly ever hear about it any longer except in passing memory. A lot of people moved from LJ to MySpace. Then MySpace to Facebook. Now with G+ and Dispora cropping up, who knows what the next social site will be.
If US companies don't want Chinese infringement, perhaps they should stop sending business orders to China with their unpublished software, movies, and music. Or stop using Chinese factories to produce parts and products using schematics of unreleased hardware.
Hollywood Producer: "Here's a brand new, never before seen movie. I want you to burn 500,000 DVDs."
Chinese Factory Owner: "Sure thing! Just send me the masters and we'll get right on that."
Chinese Worker: "Hey, it's that new American movie everyone wants to see. Get a copy of these masters and upload them to Baidu!"
At least the FBI hasn't done like the East German Stasi from the 1950s to the 1980s. All they have to do is build a listening post to funnel all of the communications traffic into one location so they can spy on the people.
Oh wait. They did that.
Well, I'm glad they haven't forced manufacturers to install specialized equipment in any piece of tech that could be used for any sort of seditious purposes the way the KGB had during the height of the Soviet Union.
No... No they did that too.
Well at least the FBI hasn't tried to set up a censorship backbone to block access to undesirable websites and blogs and create a national firewall in order to protect the citizenry like they have in China!
Sounds like paranoia to me. There seems to be this irrational fear from the Legacy Entertainment Associations that everyone is out to rob them.
And then there are the control issues. If these agencies were individuals, I'd have to guess that they were horribly abused as children and now have an innate need and desire to maintain every aspect of every situation.
Of course the punchline is that a person like that also seems to end up strapped down to a bench while someone dressed in a leather body suit paddles their rear.
I would imagine the court cases where the copyright holders (namely the members of the major record labels) equate downloads to lost sales would count. It is in the public, legal record, after all.
Only if you're a guy. If you're a woman, there's a good chance you're jail bait or someone's Mom. Of course the axiom is that there are no girls on the internet. And that 15 year old is really a 33 year old FBI agent.
"National Security" as a reason for this law seems like a HUGE gaping hole when it comes to government enforcement. It's like a catch-all term for "We can do what we wish without consequence."
Maplestory is produced by DevCat S.Korea and hosted by Nexon NA in the U.S. This is a company that has one of the poorest ratings with the BBB (Grade D) due to a number of factors, some of which are how poorly they maintain their game servers, their lack of proper customer service, and their mismanagement of the players across a number of different hosted titles.
Even though all of their games use the Free to Play model, there is no wonder why players who enjoy the games themselves would try to host their own servers.
Maybe it's because that every society needs a pariah. Someone to point to and say, "See? These people are disgusting and evil. Don't be like them. Shame them and be better."
Or maybe because the prison population is so full of pot-smoking drug offenders that there's no room to house them long term.
Cops snared 55 Massachusetts men in a sweeping, multi-agency child pornography crackdown — including a Transportation Security Administration officer assigned to Logan International Airport who is just the latest embarrassment for the troubled federal agency.
