To anyone who thinks sample based music is wrong because and feel that it's not real music, you are no different than your father or grandfather who thought rock and roll was wrong because it didn't contain any "real" instruments like, say, an orchestra.
Here is a book I am reading right now that I think tackles the issue implicitly as to maybe be more ironic: Priceless: The Myth of Fair Value (and How to Take Advantage of It) by William Poundstone http://www.amazon.com/Priceless-Myth-Fair-Value-Advantage/dp/080909469X
Hardcover $9.89
Paperback $7.99
Kindle $9.99
His little blog was not getting him any attention so he went to a larger blog to get the attention he was seeking. A perfectly logical thing to do for a blogger. But then to turn around an makes these claims destroys any good will he might have created by using HuffPo to get his name out there. What an idiot.
That's funny. That is that same solution we give about the music and movie industries as to how they should not worry about "piracy" but focus on creating value for those that do pay. But the difference in this senario the newspapers are in denial about the online revenu model that has worked for 15+ years: ads, while music and movie industries the are in denial about the similar reasoning the newspapers have in defending a paywall: sales are not lost to infringement.
People need to learn new skills like how to leverage their popularity into paid gigs. The market demands it. You could make the same case for an artists. They need to figure out how to make things that people will pay for if they want to make money from it. They might do work for free for exposure. They might intern. They might take a class and actually have to pay to get experience, not get paid.
Why do writers need to learn how to use a computer or type? I'd say it's a ability which honestly has nothing to do with any other abilities. /sarcasm
Why does a company need to have employees who do work when others will do it for free? The people doing it for free know that there are other benefits, and are thus compelled to do it for free.

Look at this! The Newspaper Guild has interns who write for them, win an award, and dosen't get paid! http://www.newsguild.org/index.php?ID=3144 I wonder why he agreed to this.
The movie industry was not given a divine right to grow endlessly. If they make less money, so be it. The market decides. It is not the end of the world. And this certainly not a reason to invade out privacy.
The lobbyists have convinced various gov officcials to hire their firms to do the work of popular causes. So basically our tax dollars are fighting each other and snake oil salesmen get our money.
