Part of the problem is there is no actual definition of fair use.
Lawyers for the copyright gatekeepers claim everything is a violation of their copyrights costing them trillions, but the bajillion gifs out there sort of prove that wrong.
No company has gone under because of gifs of their content.
One has to wonder if the fear is if we actually got & used our rights they might not have as much control as they want.
They like to claim 3 notes is the threshold for infringement in music when it comes to sampling & demand a lions share of the profits meaning less artists bother to use samples.
This cuts back on artists sharing their vision of things & leads to the awful rulings that the "feel" of music can belong to the dead artists 14th cousin 3 times removed.
Gifs are made by fans, who want to share what they are enjoying with their friends. Stomping them out means you are pissing on fans & making it harder for new people to discover your content & become fans.
UMG targeted me for posting a short video that put part of the video for 'Party Rock' over the music for 'Uptown Girl' showing that they shared a beat structure. It wasn't the entire song or video, it was maybe a minute in length.
It existing didn't let people DL the whole song or video, but UMG freaked out.
That whole nyms having to give names to fight in court means I accepted the takedown.
It wasn't worth fighting back b/c courts favor copyright holders & seem to forget the public has a stake in this too.
Even winning would have been pyrrhic victory because there are no damages when a copyright holder makes an oops & they never have to pay my court costs for ignoring fair use.
UMG could just keep sending takedowns until the end of the world, & never face anything... where if I get enough takedowns I lose my account.
The system is out of whack & until the publics rights are spelled out & given the same sort of possible damages it won't change.

Consolidation and fragmentation providing corporate profits, and a much worse consumer experience.
Imagine a single platform they all use, no more coding 5 different version of varying quality.
Studios actually making ship dates with working product day 1.
No more pouring huge amounts into developing a platform that might gain 3 fps over your competitor, just making the best single platform to showcase the games, where the development should be fierce to attract users.
But they are going to imagine that people are willing to spend hundreds to get a console for 1 maybe 2 games... that might work right... in 6 months.

Re: Re:
So the other 2 times they unlocked my account and apologized without me providing a cellphone number was a fluke?
Explain how it is cybersecurity, because no one else has ever been able to.
I have NEVER used a cell phone to access their systems.
They have no recorded number to compare it to.
This step is just so they can text a code to prove its my number, so I can then proceed to the next step of deleting the offending tweet & serving a 12 hour punishment of not being able to talk to other people who don't know me.
They claim if you cannot provide a number they can help.
Lets see, I don't have a cell phone (thanks poverty), even if I had a cell phone giving my real world name to Twitter seems like a bad thing to do, it sort of defeats me being a nym.
How does knowing my name & cell phone number have anything to do with if I can delete a tweet they claim was spreading covid misinfo & serve a timeout?
4 days until its been a full month.
No responses.
There is something terribly wrong in their system or perhaps it is working as it is supposed to.
Keeping undeseriable people off the platform with impossible tasks & silence violating their own published policies to do it.
Understand that some of these posts are copies of what I've sent to Twitter, and I am incandescent in my rage.
While it could just be them being slow & stupid, I have a very hard time believing the last 2 timesouts I got weren't because I upset someone in support.
Random bot detecting code - yeah no.
Covid Misinfo - Yeah nothing to do with berating support for several stupid timeouts & permabans of others I know or my protest of sending Jack nonpenis dick pics.

How can one forget that Maude, of Harold & Maude, carried a large ring of keys that assisted her in obtaining transportation?
There is a couple generations of gun safes that dropping will pop open.
There are people who put padlocks on doors to protect the contents, completely unaware that the more gadgety & added features often make them less secure.
While letting someone use the same login & password across the network stops a lot of whining, what is the current cost to hire an IRT to come in and certify you are a dumbass?

There is no punishment for defective/false notices.
