His point is that their customers are ad buyers, and those are the eyeballs they want. We are the customers of those ads, or so he says. There is a point in there, but when AT&T has no more viewers they will also have no more customers, either ad buyers or us.

Shotspotter shot itself in the foot, leg, arm, torso and head
It seems to me that Shotspotter can now be called into question every time is it used by LEO's as evidence of something or other. Not only did their personnel change the narrative (helicopter noise to 4 shots to 5 shots) upon request from LEO's, they then lost that days recordings and then went and testified to the made up narrative, until they got caught. In addition, it does not appear that this individual was charged with perjury either.

Re: the long arm of the three letter agency/federal cops
Wreckless driving isn't a Federal offense. Terrorism is. Drugs are. Even if it is only presumed terrorism, or a search for drugs. The case then needs to be made in a court. The CBP agent is a Federal officer, charged with enforcing Federal regulations.
Don't get me wrong, I think the whole within 100 miles of a border is not only stupid but unconstitutional. Feds doing traffic stops without probable cause is also unconstitutional. The problem is that the right cases haven't been brought before the right courts, yet.

Re:
Unfortunately the DoJ is one of those Federal entities that has betrayed their position & the public trust. Which leaves us where? Who is going to arrest/sue the various other entities who need it? Short of some future Chief Executive appointing a slew of special prosecutors and overhauling the DoJ substantially, on the road to hell.

You should read more.
Copyright infringement has cost Google over $100 million dollars in the creation of a filter. Oh, and big copyright cannot find it in themselves to create a comprehensive database of all copyrighted material for them to compare it to. So Google will have to continue spending, but big copyright will see none of that money.

Re:
To go a bit further, give them a bit of time and 4G will be depricated just like 2G and 3G were. The 4G phones will no longer be available, but only because the Telco's will only be selling 5G phones creating a decreasing demand for the 4G variety which the manufacturers will no longer suppor. Come to think of it, the manufacturers are most certainly behind 5G as they need a new excuse for cellphone churn.
Then, having completed a changeover for most of the market, voilà another price increase for the service with no additional benefit.

Re: Re: Re: 'Who's the greater fool? The fool, or the one who follows them?'
The only thing your 'experiment' proved was that people don't always read articles later in the day or the next day and vote. Your mildly disagreeable post might have been off topic enough to get flagged rather than getting flagged for being mildly disagreeable. Then there is your assumption that the same people read every article and/or that all readers have the same taste for what is or isn't acceptable. You need a better study design. Good luck with that.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Georgia, please clean up after yourselves
I hear ya, and to some degree what you say makes sense.
I am of the opinion, however, that someone wronged should be made whole. A false arrest should not burden a person with an arrest record, and they should be well compensated for the intrusion, all of the instrusions, on their life, fiscal and otherwise. Preferably by the person making the false arrest, but deep pockets if necessary (I am thinking of the union that represents them here) and government only last. Then the government should seriously reconsider employment of the person who cost them so much money.

Re: Re: Georgia, please clean up after yourselves
At the same time the individual has to deal with the fact of a felony arrest on their record. Job applications come to mind, what other things might be impacted?
Whether it is practice or not, erased should be the answer, after the civil suit of course.

Democracy
"Any functioning democracy will ensure that its law enforcement and intelligence methods are overseen independently, and that the public can be assured that any intrusions into people’s lives are necessary and proportionate."
To them the idea of democracy is 'not only are we in charge, but we are benevolent (muhahahaha), to our own purposes, which is power, power, power'. To us, the idea of democracy is 'the government is us' (no matter how it is implemented, direct or representative) and we get to say what is 'necessary and proportionate'. Their cognitive dissonance is outrageous and purposeful.

Sorry, I assumed, maybe incorrectly, that you could update the spam filter with new, known spam.
Would it be possible to hold for moderation any comment that has a url included with the username? And maybe a whitelist for those that use a url with their username but are not spam. Thad, I think, for example, uses a url with his username, but his is not spam.

Well, my comment was surrounded by two spam comments. They were not deleted.
It may be error, or lack of checking each flagged comment, but I have noticed that flagged spam comments are not always deleted. They were flagged, so they were not a problem, but the opportunity to update your spam filter seems to be missed.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:
Collapsing all the comments to a flagged comment has some benefits (and I am actually sorta for this), I should point out that some of the weekly most insightful and funniest comment come from those that would be collapsed. On the other hand, were those comments voted most insightful/funny because of their relationship to the flagged comment or would they have been insightfult/funny if posted freely. Then would they have been thought of if not for the discussion of the idiocy that got flagged. Hard to know.
And I should point out that one of my comments was removed this week, the one where I pointed out about how inconsistent you were with removing actual spam comments. Not that I care much, but the hypocrasy, given your statement to the contrary, is a bit much.
