By the way, just looking over at A and they had a small projector called the iDGLAX iDG-787 that is currently on sale for $85.95. Rated 4.5 stars. While this CUBE is rated at 50 lumens, the iDGLAX is rated at 300 lumens. Both have a 20,000 LED bulb life which they say is around 14 years of use. It's a little larger. But the Cube can run on it's battery for 90 minutes, I assume that's why the LUMENS rating is so low, the other you have to plug in. No battery that I can see. So what is more important to you? To me, 90 minutes isn't very long, but for some that may be enough.
The CUBE price is cheaper here. Like always check around before buying anything and see if it's the right price and option for you. Remember the Mac Cube? Ya, ended up not being very good. Is Cube shape really the design choice to go for?
Would like to get a nice 4K projector. It's really the only way to go if you want 4K. These 50, 60,70" 4K display's are a waste. To small for 4K, you need 100"+ Anything smaller, 1080P is just fine. 4K is what you're watching at a Movie Theater. A small 60" screen is not cutting it. So to get a reasonable price to get the needed screen size, a Projector is the only practical way to go.
I still remember when OBAMA was running how he was going to have the most OPEN Government ever. In fact it's the most closed off Government ever!!!
Bigger Government gets, the more Corrupt it becomes. Really, what did you expect from someone with zero experience running anything, and just a Community Organizer. A joke of a job.
Netflix doesn't have Ad's!!! I have Ad-Blockers running and Netflix doesn't tell me to disable them. The only thing Netflix is now allowing any more is VPN's Trying to access content in the U.S.Netflix you can't get in your own country Netflix for whatever reason. Netflix has been putting a stop to that and the content providers have been bitching.
There's NO ad's on Netflix Site that I'm aware of, and there's no commercial's in any of their content. I'm looking now to make sure.
Yep, Main login Page, the only thing Ghostery is showing is (Signal) which is a beacons/tag manager. I'm blocking that. After signing in, It's still only that 1 item!!! It's about the cleanest site I've been to.
I'm not sure what is going on. Let alone if Netflix in Australia is really any different. There would be no need to have any 3rd party ad's on their site. They make their money from the Subscription fee you pay every month.
That leave me to believe you're trying to use a VPN and that's failing.
No Encryption is 100% perfect. You can find holes in the weak spots. It just can't be 100% encrypted. Otherwise it wouldn't run. People wouldn't be able to read their messages, etc.
There's Pro's and Con's to Open Source and Closed Source. It's a Messaging App. If the FBI breaks in, what are they going to see that you care about? Does it have Nude Pictures of your Girlfriend? Medical History? Banking Info? So on and So on like a Smart phone??? Is someone going to steal your personal Identity breaking into Whatsapp?
If what you're texting is really important that you don't want anyone or any Government to see and read it, maybe Whatsapp isn't the one to use. Especially being Facebook owned!!! It's almost as bad is Google which flat out is a Advertising Company. All they do is spy on everything you do.
While iMessage is Encrypted and always has been, anything part of iCLoud, Apple still has the keys for and can get into that Data for the FBI. At least for now.
Maybe if they didn't thow a zillion very invasive ad's to people. Plus all the tracking of people from site to site and so on. Basically downloading a bunch of garbage from 20+ different sites just for a small article. All the garbage using more Data then what you want to view. It's been shown that up to 79% of what you're downloading is Ad's!!! That's just ridiculous. When you have CAP's, and /or paying for each and every bit of Data you download on your cell plan, these company's are crazy.
It's no different from me using a DVR and hitting a button and skipping all the ad's. So we have Product placement in shows.
Remember the days of Pop Over windows with Ad's then Pop under and Microsoft and other's blocked that right in the browser because it was getting crazy. A bunch of windows opening up behind your browser of ad's!!! It's so bad now you can get a virus from one of these's ad's. We have every right to block this garbage. If they don't like it, block everyone using a Ad blocker!!! It can be done. Of course people will just leave, but you can't force it on people.
Can I go to these Ad company's houses and take a dump right in the middle of their place? Why not, to me it's the same thing.
I have Ghostery installed. What I like is I can block everything, or pick and choose what to block or even whitelist a site. What is interesting is going to a site and seeing how much crap they are actually trying to feed to you and how much crap you're grabbing from so many other sites. Even here it's blocking 13 things. I've notice when I unblock some things, a bunch of other junk now wants to load up form sites all over.
Here Techdirt we have Amazon Associates, Double Click, Quantcast for advertising and then there's a bunch of Beacons, Widgets, Analytics and so on and so on. I'm sure if I allowed some of this stuff, even more crap would try to come in the door.
Exactly! You're free to spout out your speech and I'm free to ignore it! You're free to throw out all your crap ad's, and I'm free to block every one of them from getting to me.
I cut the cord about 4 years ago., but have seen these banners in channels I'm getting form the Antenna. It's really annoying. Personally I'm more on the cable side of this because the costs, the fee's they want for channels are shooting up way, way faster then the cost of living. It's just never enough.
I don't see why Cable company's should even pay a Re-transmition fee. They're offering a service to get more people to watch your channel. Where they live a Antenna may not be practical, or the signal may not be the best. ABC, CBS, whatever, which you show your own ad's to make money!!! If anything, they should be the ones paying the cable company's to do it.
I cut the cord almost 4 years ago and it's been the best thing ever. After paying for it for about 18 years. But once in a while I get those banner messages about blackout for Comcast or whatever. It's not blacked out for me being a Antenna user, but that messages are still in their stream.
When I look around my neighborhood and don't see a antenna in site, I laugh and think SUCKERS!!!! I don't miss that $170 Comcast bill back then I was paying. I currently pay $50 a month for 105Mbps service. That's all I need, internet only. All the broadcast channels I get 100% Legally FREE with a Antenna and use a TIVO to record it all where I then skip past all the commercials!!!
I hear SlingTV isn't all that great. Then again it's owned by DirectTV, a Satellite TV company. What do you expect. I still think that $20 for what you get is to much. Maybe at $9.99 it would be worth it?
I cut the cord about 4 years ago. I was already paying for Netflix and Amazon. Hell I had Amazon just for 2nd day shipping before they even added all this PRIME Streaming Movie/TV service and other things to it. I use Amazon Prime Music all the time as it's FREE and commercial free being a prime member. It's a pretty good App on my iPhone.
So those service I don't consider a extra cost for cutting the cord as I had them before I cut the cord. I just recently switched from Media Center, to a TIVO setup to record all the broadcast channels with a Antenna. So I get ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, PBS in HD and 5.1 surround, plus other channels like MeTV and Antenna TV, etc. Those have a lot of great old series on them. Want to watch Hogan's Hero's or Colombo, or and so on and so on. It's great for that. Tivo supports Amazon and Amazon Prime, Netflix, HULU (No thanks, and others with a universal search for content from all of them, plus PLEX support. So a pretty good all in one solution.
I can skip commercials. Watch in the family room and continue in the bedroom using the Tivo Mini. Which can do everything my Tivo Roamio does. So I don't anything and can watch on my own time. I have no monthly costs in doing this.
Who in their right mind want to pay $200+ cable bills? CableTV is a Luxury item. CableTV came about because of poor statically Analog TV. It's skyrocketed to the expensive garbage we have not. 200 channels of crap in which you might only watch 20 of them at most. But it's setup where you have to get the most expensive bundle to get that 1 or 2 channels you actually want. This is all by design.
A Girl at work that just lost her Mom from Cancer, She and her brother live in the house. They have a 200+ Comcast bill. They don't make a lot of money. With a house payment and everything else, maybe ESPN is right, Poor, but not POOR, POOR as they are in a house and not living in a cardboard box. She wants me to setup a Antenna and whatnot for her. Her brother can't do it, and toss that huge cable bill. To me that's just crazy. I pay $50 a month for Internet only.
The prices for all that TV content just keeps shooting up way, way faster then people's paychecks!!! The list of people I know who cut the cord or plan to is growing. My brother did it last year. He would have done it sooner but his wife was stopping him. Some people are really in denial with what's happening. It's right in front of your face.
Exactly, it's the OLD people that are holding onto Cable. I cut the Cord. My Dad Moved into my house and he used to have Satellite. Getting used to not having it, He now tells me he has to much stuff to watch and doesn't miss it. He's retired, no job, so watches a lot of TV!!!
To me what seems to really be surprising, is not a shift to Netflix and whatnot, but to YouTube!!! So many teens, that's all they all seem to watch or make their own video's to put up on anything and everything. They don't watch anything else!!!
That is the Generation that will be coming in, getting Internet only, and still watching lots of youtube, and I'm sure Netflix or whatever, but ESPN? That's way down low on the list.
That's why they have the Child Molester to fall back on!!! Have to protect the kids!!! Can't do that if you're phone and data is encrypted. Who these people are sending messages to? "Hey Bob, guess what? I just kidnapped a 6 year old boy and am hanging out at my cabin in the woods! Don't tell anyone now!"
Darn if we just had a backdoor in that encryption that kids life would be saved!!! We'd be able to read that message and come and save the day!!! HAHAHAHAHA, Ya right, Who would do such a dumb thing? These politicians think everyone is just dumb. Maybe most are as they're in office!!
Guess what, with a Warrant, in hand, shown to you, you have to Unlock your phone and let them in!!! That's the law!!! They just want to easily spy on everyone on everything looking for anything. Guilty of something or not. With NO warrant. Or some dumb abused warrant that just lets them get away with anything they want.
From what I just heard, this security issue was already FIXED!!! All RING Doorbells would automatically download and install this update as they all check for updates once a day.
Way down on the bottom of the page is says FIXED!!! This topic is now fear mongering or a issue that's already been taken care of. Anyone with a RING Doorbell is already cured!!!
That's right! Ignoring people cutting the cord like myself. The younger generation,, the young Teens NOW are pretty much only seems to be watching YouTube!!! I don't get it, but it's YouTube for everything. My brothers young kids pretty much only watch Netflix for kids. They didn't know what commercials were for the longest time. Do these people think they're going to sign up for Cable as a adult? Or watch broadcast tv?
Things aren't going to get better for them. They'll get far worse and people are dying off.
What was the Original reason for Cable TV? It wasn't 200 channels of crap. It was because Analog TV in many places SUCKED and there were only a few channels from the antenna. I grew up with just a Antenna. We had a box so we could turn the antenna to get some channels and turn it some another way to get others. It sucked. While my friends next store had Cable TV. They had HBO back then, which was the only Premium channel. MTV still played Music Video's, there wasn't a ton of channels, but you got them clearly.
Now you have 200 channels of crap, maybe only watch 20 at most. You need a Box as it's all encrypted, which costs you more money. What are you really getting for all that money you're spending these day?
I cut the cord about 4 years ago. When I got my house I mounted a large antenna. I get ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, PBS all in HD and 5.1 surround plus other channels like MeTV and Antenna TV, etc. All 100% Legally FREE.
But even that seems to be going away because of the generation of watching Youtube!!! Netflix will survive youtube, but the others??? There's just so much content these days trying to get your attention. Why would anyone want a $200+ Comcast bill every month?
I heard in the past that only 4% of Cable subscribers actually watch the Sport channels on a regular bases. That means 96% are Subsidizing that 4% group!!!
If you had to sign up for ESPN as it's own service like HBO. it might actually cost you $15 or more a month. It's those HUGE costs to cover sports games and the Million that players get. Costs have just shot up. Why do I want ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, FOX Sports and on and on and on. Paying for all that crap I NEVER wanted or watched!!! It's one of the reasons I had enough with Cable TV service.
I cut the cord not long before I went House shopping. When I got my House, the first thing I did was mount a large antenna. Signed up for Internet only service. At the time U-Verse. Not fast, but at $35 a month, fast enough for my needs. Well after a couple years with U-Verse, they almost doubled my cost and wouldn't make a deal again and I warned them I'd cancel. Because Comcast was a TON faster for not much more money. Well In about a Week, I got a new Cable Modem, ran a new Cable line outside to the hookup to my Closet where I planned to put the new cable modem. Called Comcast, was going to get the 50Mbps for $45 a month, they said for $5 more I could get 105Mbps, so I did that. Got it working, ripped out my U-Verse modem, called them up to cancel, they tried to work out another deal and I said NO, already warned them a week ago and I have Comcast now and working, bye, bye!!!
Back at my old place, it was just me and I was paying for much slower Internet from Comcast, plus their TV service, and a Duel HD DVR Motorola Box and paying $170 a month. No thanks. Could no longer justify the cost. I had enough. I dropped Showtime a few years before that because costs were shooting up every year. I had enough.
A Girl at work right now pays over $200 a month to Comcast. She and her brother live in the house that was her MOM's who just died from cancer. They don't make a lot of money. She wants me to help them out and get them setup with a Antenna and get rid of that $200+ cable bill every month. I'd NEVER pay that. it's just crazy. No TV is worth that much.
Kids these days don't even seem to watch CableTV. It seems to be all about Youtube!!! My brothers young kids pretty much only watch Netflix. Didn't know what a commercial was for the longest time. They cut the cord about a year ago I guess. I have to much TV to watch as it is. Why would I pay a bunch more? I'd rather keep it in my pocket then give it to Comcast. Think about how much you pay and add it up. If I stuck to what I was paying 4 years ago, to what I'm paying NOW and prices didn't keep going up. I'm saving $120 a year right now. That's $1,440 per year, or $14,400 after 10 years!!! How long have you've been paying, and how long do you think you'll continue. 10 years, 20 year, longer? It add's up fast. $1,440 a year, means that easily paid off all my TIVO hardware, plus all the costs of my Antenna, cables and wiring my house for Gigabit Ethernet and a few other things. The year after and beyond is nothing but savings. Hell buy a couple season passes for shows you may miss. I buy season passes for "The Walking Dead" from Amazon. The cheaper SD version which looks just fine. I can watch on Monday after the new episode airs on AMC on Sunday night. It's commercial free and I own it!
Think about it. If you're a huge Sports person, you can always get SlingTV at $20 a month to get ESPN and ESPN2.$5 more for the sport bundle, get another 9 sport channels including ESPNEWS.
Maybe cutting the cord will work for you, maybe it won't.
