It wasn't really a plugin, but rather some Javascript code that created the popup.
That's what I was getting at. If they shoehorned it into a plugin and put it on the WP plugin registry, it would be a matter of searching and activating a plugin rather than editing a theme and remembering to reinstate said edit between theme updates. I'm a decent programmer, but I haven't yet fiddled with the underlying WP code. If I get the time to play with it in the next couple days, I'll look into at least providing them with an intelligent suggestion or even a prototype plugin. If anything comes of it, I'll barge into the comments somewhere and link to it.
Maybe someone should make a plugin that allows for a popup lightbox with an anti-SOPA/PIPA/etc message that only comes up once per visit. Its easy to just make the landing page a static litany of aggravation, but something more elegant that can be distributed by the WP plugin system would be more efficient.
Why wait for the scans? If there's copyright infringement abound, let loose the witch hunters! If the infringing filth isn't the first document inspected, burn them all! The taint of other peoples effort must be purged from those holy shrines of innovation.
"I suppose you boys need a little... Protection... ya, that's it, a little protection. A sweet deal like this, you might attract the wrong kinda attention if you're not careful. We could offer ya a little help, keepin' the thugs at bay... but we aren't running a charity service around here. Its a sweet deal you got setup, all these shiny gadgets and expensive lookin toys. Boy it sure would be a shame to let a nice place like this go down hill like the rest of town... heh heh, everyone needs a little bit a protection."
I keep wondering why trench coats, gloves and tommy guns continue to have such great sales. It must be how nicely they go with the vintage hats.
Its amazing, he mentions the protections written into the constitution, but his comments make it seem like he's never read the damn thing. Further more, in continuously conflating infringement, counterfeit, and theft, he comes off sounding like an overfilled gas bag rather than an important industry figure. No wonder the MPAA is worried, they can't get this dinosaur to finally go extinct fast enough.
When both pieces of "legislation" suck, the obvious choice is to write good legislation. This should not be a difficult concept for congress to understand. I know its hard to learn how to type, but thankfully they have underlings for that (who obviously know how to use the copy and paste shortcuts).
If I recall correctly [CITATION NEEDED], serving sizes are based on the size of the serving analyzed and not on the size of the serving intended to be consumed. Brian Regan's analysis of Fig Newtons is particularly enlightening in this respect.
You'd think that the food industry would have figured out transparency's benefits after "The Jungle" came out during the industrial revolution... Then again, maybe there's digital rats they need to hide?
This, and the movie "Law Abiding Citizen," is why you do not piss off engineers. If we can build all the nice toys we play with from day to day, its even easier for us to break them.
Its been quite the adventure this past year, but I expect that the fantastic experience I've come back for again and again will only be surpassed by what's to come in the following year.
As much as I hate dealing with politics, it seems to me that we productive members of society have lets this festering region of our social structure rot for too long. I hope taking action as we did with godaddy and soon will with a few congressmen will maintain building steam. To adapt a previously mentioned sentiment on this site, the private capitol that starts a market has about run its course. Its time for the open source community to take the reigns.
