I think it's more the fact that the Republicans have been blocking him for quite some time now (even though he has seniority), but now that they were voted back into some semblance of relevancy, they are scared shitless that their fragile alliance with the tea party types will come crashing down if they don't at least start to look like they are playing ball.
Oddly enough, I just read this. The guy was extradited from the UK to the US and found guilty of "conspiracy to obstruct justice" (even though he was acquitted of actually obstructing justice).
Never underestimate the ability of the US to come up with a trumped-up charge that will get foreign governments to roll over for them.
If there's one thing the US is good at, it's putting people behind bars. If they can't find anything solid to charge him with, they'll just make something up.
I was under the impression that removable media restrictions were already common place. Besides, it's not hard to run software that detects, logs, and tells someone when a USB drive is plugged in.
So your argument for prosecuting TorrentFinder but not Google is that we only need to prosecute people and companies whose actions are "more often than not" illegal?
I didn't realize the legality of something hinged around what % of your total actions your illegal acts constitute.
The difference, I think, is that a sit-in promotes the discussion of its topic by offering a way to explain the disruption to people (people wonder what's going on and ask questions).
A DoS attack just gives users a blank page, and very few people have the techinical capacity or willingness to find out.
Your "DNS provider" and "hosting company" were each the equivalent of one bonk of a whac-a-mole hammer. Sure, the mole descends back into box when bonked, but I don't think I need to explain to you how the game works . . .

Not really. But the same could be said of Google.
