I've asked you lots of questions, and you rarely answer me. So either you're scared of me, as you claim Mike is of you, or for whatever reasons, you don't think I'm worth engaging in a discussion, as Mike feels about you. So which is it? Are you a chicken or a hypocrite?
Re: Re: Re: To Tim it's academic: to her and employees, it's LOST income.
"Geez, another fool with the same lame notion that you've a right to double-check this business owner."
She has the right to publicly claim that piracy costs her millions of dollars in sales and tens of thousands in profits. The public has the right to ask her to prove it. It's astounding that you think the opposite.
Probably, but that doesn't change things one bit. His comment was completely innocuous and doesn't even come close to justifying the treatment he received, or excuse the flight attendant's lying to the pilot.
"And by that logic, we would give up on prosecuting all murder, rape and armed robbery because it doesn't stop all of the crime."
And by your repeated logic, copyright infringement is just as serious as murder, rape and armed robbery. After all, you constantly compare them when this topic is discussed. But thankfully most of the populace aren't as batshit crazy as you. Most people consider copyright infringement only marginally worse than jaywalking. Most people realise copyright is for the "protection" of big corporates, not actual artists and creators, so sympathy for the terrible crime of infringement is pretty thin on the ground.
"They've certainly treated the artists, writers and creators much, much better than Big Search, Big Hardware or Big Piracy."
I'm going to ignore "Big Piracy", because that's laughably stupid, but search and hardware tech companies have given artists more power and freedom than they've had in mankind's history. If these companies are so bad to artists, then they should stop using all those tech tools that make it cheaper and easier to produce and market their content. No more digital music, no more YouTube, delist from Google (somehow...), scrub their web presence clean. That'll show 'em!
"Face it: just because the big corporations weren't perfect doesn't mean that we should embrace anarchy."
First, The actions of these big companies weren't just "not perfect", often they were downright despicable. Second, we're a long, long way from "embracing anarchy", and it's silly to suggest anybody here is doing that.
"That's often much, much worse."
Things are much, much better for artists, creators, consumers and fans today. Things are only much, much worse for the big corporations that have for decades controlled who gets to watch and listen to what. You'll be hard pressed to find many people who feel sorry for them.
Jesus, learn to read! The AC's accusation was that Mike "doesn't do accountability", which I pointed out was hypocritical. My anonymity is irrelevant to the discussion.
Re: Re: Re: Even given ALL your claims, Mike, Aaron Swartz let himself in for it.
I'll assume your question is based on an ignorance of what clinical depression does to people.
The point is he did not give in to the DoJ's bullying and threats by admitting guilt to felony charges he believed he was innocent of. You think he should of, which probably means you would too.

Perhaps you should read the article before commenting, since your question is clearly answered.
Why don't you tell us why this should be a federal crime? Why does "on a computer" increase the penalty tenfold?
