How many people watched SNL, BEFORE Lazy Sunday?
And how many people watched it AFTER Lazy Sunday?
You say free advertising doesn't work... I say it does, though on a different scale.
You need to have something captivating, you need to have quality to hook an audience.
Sure you can fill the airwaves with reality show upon reality show. Easy money, and people apparently watch it... They watch it because there is nothing else to watch. But it isn't quality, it's just quantity.
I heard that SNL was great once, and then became rubbish.
Suddenly with Lazy Sunday, people saw a glimmer of something entertaining, and realized that SNL was funny again. And people started watching it again.
That's the free advertising that NBC got.
Businesses should stop just looking at the short term ideas, and look at the broader picture, and a bit further into the future. Most businesses are so focussed on the here and now and the bottom line, that they forget that it's not all about that.
But that's a whole 'nother hornets-nest of a discussion.
Europeans already pay more than US citizens.
599 Euro is about 786 US-Dollars.
(And UK citizens are shafted even more: 425 pounds is about 832 US dollars (cheapest example I could find for the UK))
Makes sense, they claim to be "inventors of the mp3player", and it does seem to be a patent troll.
Yet another example of the brokeness of the patent system.
This has nothing to do with Youtube, but with some stupid idiots running a piracy website. And apparently they had google-ads on it (like million other websites) and that is why Hollywood wants to go after Google, since they clearly agree with piracy by providing the ads...
Next thing you know, even talking about "The Big Game" could result in a lawsuit, because that's copyright infringement.
Or just watching it with some friends/family is a copyright infringement, because you only have a license to watch it by one person.
I understand that companies and individuals want to get paid for their copyright, but this is getting ridiculous. Don't try to assert control over something you simply can't control.
A church that tries to create a community feeling by offering this service should not be illegal.
Joysticks have been used for so long (it started with the Atari, AFAIK), I wonder why this company waited this long to start suing these three parties.
The first joystick used by any of the three companies mentioned in the suit was with the Nintendo 64.
After that we got the Playstation2, the Xbox, the Gamecube and now the PS3, Wii and Xbox360. All of those have joysticks in the controllers.
The N64 alone is more than 10 years old! So why now?
I want to say this: "There is no viable OS for the desktop!"
And I'll tell you why:
- Windows is unweildy, clunky, bizarre at times.
- GNU/Linux is unweildy, clunky, is bizarre at times.
- MacOS is unweildy, clunky and is bizarre at times too.
It just depends from which viewpoint you come from, and what exactly you need from your computer.
Try switching from Windows to Mac, and you'll encounter a lot of WTF-moments.
Same goes for switching from Windows to GNU/Linux, GNU/Linux to Mac, GNU/Linux to Windows, Mac to GNU/Linux, Mac to Windows.
It all depends on your experiences with computers and OS' and what exactly you need.
I've switched from Windows to GNU/Linux, and I like it. But that's just because all I use my computer for is surfing the web, downloading email, do some word-processing, listening to music, and playing some games.
And I figured, why pay about a half-month pay for an OS (and other software), when I can get an OS, that does everything I need/want, for free?
I could have gone to Mac too, but that would have been more expensive for me.
So switching for me was a no-brainer.
The question is not whether it's viable for the desktop, but if $OS_of_choice is viable for _you_! What you want from your computer is something different than what your neighbour wants.
I know people here in The Netherlands who ride on bikes that don't have handlebar brakes, but instead have to peddle the other way around to stop the bike. In a sense that's a similar brake as leaning backwards. (is that the before-mentioned non-freewheeling brake?)
This sounds more like bureaucratic stupidity (which doesn't surprise this Dutchman much) than a mal-worded law.

On the post: European PS3 To Be Less Backwards Compatible Than Elsewhere?
Re: Price Comparisons
Fact of the matter is $599 != €599.
You could go online and only pay $599 (+shipping) to get a PS3 from the US, and that'll still be cheaper than getting one in European stores.
Or is that why Sony sued Lik-Sang into oblivion? To make sure that Europeans will have to pay the extreme premium on Sony's excuse of a game console.
On the post: European PS3 To Be Less Backwards Compatible Than Elsewhere?
Europe = cashcow for Sony.
And we don't have the option of getting the 20GB version instead.
