Re: No. Context is always: FALSE report intended taken for real.
If only the article above had a link to a nuanced and logical explanation of the problems associated with using that quote in contexts that it does not belong. Some historical context as to why it is overused and not helpful would be good to.
You know who should do something like that? That Popehat guy. He is good at that sort of thing. We should ask him nicely....
I used to fly out of a tiny local airport taking puddle jumpers to the next available large airport. We even had the occasional option of sitting next to the pilot in the copilot's seat. It also meant having to wait to get into the building until the local TSA agents arrived at the building and warmed up the equipment. For a tiny little town those extra jobs were important. It would be difficult for congress critters in rural districts to let those jobs move off to the big city.
Corporations have first amendment rights when it comes to giving money to political campaigns, but they have no rights to make their own decisions when it comes to obeying arbitrary commandments from law enforcement. That seems awfully convenient.
As an aside, it is fairly common practice for college students to form a groupme for each class. It is not uncommon for someone in the group to invite a faculty member or graduate student. This has resulted in a number of students having to take part in uncomfortable meetings with their local academic honesty committee.
Shocking that a judge would think it is his place to decide if a reporter is adding "useful information" to any aspect of a story. This ruling allows judges an immense amount of leeway in evaluating any aspect of a story to determine if part of the story has an adequate level of utility.
Does this mean that Facebook will precipitate a new 30 year war? Only this time it will be waged by aging baby boomers from their recliners posting lame, badly photoshopped memes.
I am sure that making it easier to transfer all your information would never be put to nefarious use.... At the very least this would make it easier for companies to bypass the part where they have to sit and wait to gather all those tiny details that add up over time.
Politician's seem to view their job to be about creating realities. Realities that depend on the time of day. If the press adopts a reality based approach they will be fundamentally at odds with politicians they think they need and will be shut out of the power sharing arrangement that got us here.
At this point I would just be happy to see news about something that is not about what some politician is blathering on about and focuses on what is happening in the world outside of Washington, DC. We should care about the people of Puerto Rico, Haiti, and Nicaragua.
I have not looked more closely in to the details, but the non-consent aspect of the ketamine studies is deeply troubling. There are detailed rules for the protocols when a study involves prisoners. In this case the researchers may not have anticipated that people taken into custody would be involved in the study. The moment they became aware that they had people who meet the technical definition of being a prisoner they should have notified their IRB and changed their protocols.
Back when I was in middle and high school I always assumed that school officials were jerks. Now I find out that an appeals court believes that they need special training to not strip search preeteen girls when looking for something had it appeared still would not mean it was the same thing they were looking for.... I was right all this time.
Here we go again.... Putting regulations in place is not the same thing as "control." Net neutrality is not putting limits on entry in to the market, and it is not controlling the market itself. It only makes sure that the players in the market do not place artificial restrictions on the market. That is the opposite of "control."
The article above is describing the controls that the players in the market are exerting that distort the market. They are taking a page out of the airlines book and creating a confusing mix of practices that nickel and dime consumers and keep the whole thing a confused mess at the same time. Unlike the airlines, there are even fewer players in the market so it is not an actual market and more like a utility where the real control is over who owns those poles and wires running up to your house.
This is all well and good, and it is nice that people are making money. What this does not account for, though, is that it is very hard to make something free and control what they are doing. There is no point in doing business if you cannot control people and force them to do what you want them to do. Without that incentive then greedy narcissists will not want to create businesses, and we will all suffer.
Disappear a whole media company for one monologue. Interesting. The Tao of Xi is not nearly as adorable as the Tao of Pooh, and smells a bit more like poo.
Best case scenario: both sides will spend copious amounts of money to help establish a good court result. The down side of reading from this site is that I have too many counter examples as to why this is misguided, wishful thinking. Oh well, I can dream.
Thanks, I tend to over think the red button as being mostly for abusive posts. The original post was not really abusive and only a minor troll. The topic diversion stuff just gets tiresome, and I felt like venting....
Nothing in the article says otherwise. Some companies are installing software without their customers' consent and without informing them. Also, the software has the potential to share information.
What pack of nut jobs discovered this site? We are seeing more and more people trying to directly change the subject or divert attention using irrelevant stereotypes or trigger points. It is distracting and annoying, and it would be great to have a new button to label a post as being an off topic diversion.
Ah, I see. Sorry about that. I missed the sarcasm in the first post. Not sure how the article prompted an anti-libertarian post, but the main thing is that Wednesday is almost over.
