There is a case that was on one of Judge Judy's classic collection where a recording completely exonerated a cop. This spoiled little brat thought she could get out of a ticket because her dad was a cop. She made all kinds of false accusations that the cop acted inappropriately. She got to speak first and really played the victim. When it was the cop's turn he simply said that he had a recording of the entire stop. The girl nearly pissed herself. She had called her dad on her cell phone and wanted the cop to talk to him. He was very polite and simply told her that he didn't want to take the call. Even though the girl got very loud and abusive he remained calm and gave her the ticket. The only reason he took her to court was that he wanted a letter of apology so he could get the report removed from his folder. When Judy asked him what he would do with any award he told her he would donate it to charity. She gave him the maximum $5,000. She told the girl to write the letter but she would read it first to make sure that it was proper. She also chewed her ass royally.
I know you will say this is just a TV show but all parties sign documents that make her decision legally binding. Judy was a real judge for many years. I wish there were more judges like her.
In the state of Kansas drug dealers are required to pay a tax and affix a stamp on it. The purchase is anonymous. This does not mean pot is in any way legal here. It only means if you are busted and have not paid this tax they will pile tax evasion charges in addition to dealing. Knowing the IRS you would probably get more prison time for the tax. The IRS took down Al Capone when he was too smart to get convicted for all the mob crimes he was responsible for. Here is the link on the official Kansas government site: http://www.ksrevenue.org/perstaxtypesdrug.html
In Kansas possession of anything less than an ounce is a misdemeanor. On a first offense and no one does any jail time for it. They put you on probation and require you to complete drug rehab and get tested weekly at your own expense. This is only if the ounce is in one bag. If it split into smaller amounts they can charge you with dealing.
Sounds like the final episode of the series "Weeds". It jumped ahead several years and the family had become wealthy when pot became legal and they had previously filed some patent or trademark on their strain of weed.
At least give this school credit for changing a name that offended native Americans. Why they would want to draw more attention to a term they had the decency to drop again is beyond me. Their name is nowhere as offensive as the Washington Redskins and despite overwhelming public sentiment they tenaciously hold on to that racist name.
In my state of Kansas the only legal use for robo dialers is for political campaigns. Around election time I might get 2 or 3 calls at the most. Rachael, Medicare back brace scam, claiming you won a free trip or some other prize to get personal info etc. are all against the law.
Just like before when Google eliminated snipets altogether they cried foul when their web traffic fell drastically. Seven words, really? Go ahead Google. Give them what they want. Just because Google makes money sending people to your web site so YOU can get ad revenue you think Google owes you? The old expression "cutting off your nose to spite your face" comes to mind.
The do not call list is a joke and the government will never do much to stop these robo callers. I bought a Panasonic phone that can block up to 250 numbers. It can also block any unidentified callers. It won't stop all of these annoying calls but it will hang up on repeat offenders. Some callers have called back more than a dozen times. I only have 3 relatives that might call me long distance so I usually don't even answer. A good site to check out numbers out is http://800notes.com/ I'm retired so I sleep odd hours. Unless I'm expecting a call I turn the ringer off. I have a strobe flasher for when I am awake.
The only time I got jury duty I handed the notice to my bosses secretary and she asked "do you want to get out of it?" They called in and told them we were too far behind schedule to spare me which was actually true. I worked at Boeing and at that time we had so many orders we were delivering planes as much as 2 months late.
I am 63 years old. Wouldn't it be terrible if the music I listened to as a teenager ever became public domain in my lifetime? In the US the time doesn't even start until the last Beatle has died. That means my great grandson would be in his 50's before this happened. If the copyright maximists had their way the ancestors of Mozart would be filing lawsuits.

They did that and he kept kicking through walls into other apartments. Much of the time they weren't sure where he was until he started shooting at them again.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Good cops would welcome the cameras
Except the law says that if someone is shooting at you, that you have a right to shoot back. Would you say the same if one of his shots killed a cop or a civilian? He already strangled his girlfriend the day before. He also tried to deliberately run down a highway patrolman in his truck. If he had surrendered instead of shooting at the SWAT team then he would have been entitled to his Miranda rights and a trial.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Good cops would welcome the cameras
Wrong! When you are directly endangering the lives of both police and civilians you are not equal under the law. He fired several shots inside the store and dozens at police. One reason they waited as long as they did was they were hoping he would finally sleep and they could take him alive. He was so high that he was probably up the entire time.
"Why didn't they just shoot the gun out of his hand?"
I'm afraid only Roy Rogers had that skill.
Some people will criticize the police no matter what they do. There was a PCP junkie here that murdered his girlfriend, robbed a WalMart pharmacy firing his gun in the crowded store and barricaded himself in his apartment. He shot at the police numerous times. They had reason to believe he had large quantities of ammunition and bomb making materials. The standoff went on for 36 hours and our police chief was criticized for finally saying "Let's take him out". Even after hitting the apartment with a fire hose he shot at the SWAT team as they moved in. The way some people complained you would think they shot Mother Teressa!
A few months ago a Wichita cop answered a break in call. He came up just as the man was leaving. When ordered to stop the man pulled a gun out and ran. The cop did not shoot and kill him until the guy clearly stopped, turned around and leveled the gun at him. This time there were no cries of police brutality because the entire incident was recorded on the store's security cameras. Sometimes police shootings are completely justified. In situations like this the footage means such matters can be quickly resolved. I'm sure some bleeding hearts would whine "why didn't he shoot him in the leg?" That is not how they are trained. They are taught to stop an imminent threat by shooting center mass. Too many people watch unrealistic cop shows where someone points a gun at them and instead of shooting they plead and try to reason them to put it down. Truth is; if you are stupid enough to point a gun at a cop, expect to be shot.
It puts a J in front of a very common word. In the trademark business it no longer seems to matter if there is any remote possibility of brand confusion. If Jdownloader predates any of their claims can they go after them? Common sense has no place in with all the litigious insanity.
Yes, many mistakes and collateral damage has been caused by drones and other anti terrorist actions. At least an attempt is made on our part to go after after guilty individuals and not just indiscriminate murder of bombing crowded market places and transportation like the terrorists. Are we to take no action to take out the leadership of these organizations?
Innocent people died on both sides in WWII but who was more to blame, the allies or the Nazis? I served in the army stationed in Germany in the 70's and many older Germans told me that the majority of the people hated Hitler and even when our bombs fell on their cities they blamed him for the destruction and death.
Only about 15 to 20% of them. Of course it is the largest religion in the world so that's still millions that want to kill us and don't care if our women and children die. I still remember the massive celebrations of hundreds of thousands of Muslims in the streets all over the middle east on 9/11. There have been cases of pregnant Muslim women strapping on bomb vests. The families of "martyrs" who die in suicide attacks receive permanent financial support from the Muslim leadership. Kindergarten age children are taught songs about the honor of dieing for Allah. How horrible that politically incorrect label Muslims as terrorists when it's not all of them . Just a lot of them.
