As a computer programmer of some 20+ years, I'd like to tell you that patents have no business anywhere near software, period. When I started, patents on software were autmatically invalid, and this lead to the explosion of technology that we have today. Only the scum of the earth would have the gall to re-invent history and call any sort of software patent a good thing.
Please peddle your apologies elsewhere.
Yeah, Helmet! You need to just dumb it down and suck! What's all this personality stuff you're bringing to the stories? Just the facts, man! If I wanted entertainment I would read Fox News!
So you want your name attached to EVERY gory video, or just the sports-related ones? Personally, I'd want to skip the ones coming out of Mexico and the Middle East...
Realize that Sony is only 1/5 the size it was in it's heyday. This may be for real, because they may not have their 2,000 lawyers on retainer anymore.
If this is true, then litigation may actually be the driving force behind the cyclical patterns of businesses!
1.Get big, get more lawyers, piss everyone off with pointless litigation.
2.Everyone is pissed, no one buys your products regardless of quality, lay off lawyers, less litigation.
So what are the requirements? Cloud-based storage and HTML5 on a server? You sure you don't want your own client with your subscriptions saved to the web/location of your choice? (Can't take that down!)
This is a good thing. Hopefully, if the Supreme Court screws up the copyright on imported goods case, Congress will fall all over itself again to fix things.
I watched a show on the Discovery Channel 3 years ago where they were testing 50 cal sniper rifles at a 2-mile range.
They could hit a license plate at that range.
Tell me again why I should be more afraid of drones?
Actually, you are not an asshole. You are delusional.
Do you really think the CIA is going to waste their time and money on random civilians? Do you really think they are going to expose themselves to constant attack by living in your country?
The people who have been kidnapping your friends and relatives are YOUR OWN GOVERNMENT. They use the CIA as cover, because we're the big bad guys with a secular government. (AKA evil Godless dogs).
One of the other problems you mention is lack of due process. I think that has more to do with corrupt officials than the CIA.
I'm more afraid of lunatic gunning me down because I forgot to use my turn signal, and I think you should be, too.
...I'm generally at least as concerned about the collateral damage caused by our oodles of law enforcement.
Of course, wasting a million dollar drone on a domestic issue is clearly uneconomical, so don't get your panties in a bunch. But in 10 years, when the drones are $1.95 each, then you should worry...
That's not what Jay said. He got it right. So did you.
Corporations were purposely left out of the Constitution. That would give states total control over them, and did for a number of years. They could be liquidated at the drop of a hat: the price you pay for having no personal liability in the business entity. Now that's no longer the case. We now have corporations which are too big to fail, subsidized by everyone and beholden to no one but the board and executives. (Shareholders? Yeah, right. Why is Apple sitting on billions again?)
We seriously need to start splitting them up or shutting them down, but no one has the intestinal fortitude, and probably won't for the foreseeable future.
So the DOJ allows Autodesk to by both 3D Studio Max and Maya, the two biggest 3D rendering packages, but balks when two consumer review companies want to merge?
This water smells. (Old Japanese saying)
Take a look at Illinois courthouses. You can't bring any sort of electronic device in unless you are a member of the press or a lawyer. All cellphones confiscated at the door.
The excuse is that people were sending information to other people about testimonies and identifying witnesses.
It's also about the biggest load of BS ever.
Illinois: the model for Big Brother on the west side of the pond.
A computer is an electronic brain. An algorithm is a thought, regardless of it running on silicon or neurons. By patenting software, you are patenting thoughts.
Process patents should be done away with as well. You should not be able to tell other people that they can't follow these steps to make something. That's like patenting a recipe, which has already been deemed unpatentable.
