I still think the proper way to do this and not look evil would be to leave the ITC out of it and either try to hit Apple's pocketbook or even better come up with some kind of cross licensing agreement with Apple, Google, Motorola, and other smartphone manufacturers so Apple has to stop their nonsense.
I understand that "everyone else is doing it" but I think they could have taken the high road on this and left the ITC and their injunctions out of this. They may be trying to hit Apple hard and to force a settlement but Apple has previously shown no interest in such a thing so I don't think they are any more likely to settle this time.
This bugs me. I don't really like seeing Google getting involved in the whole patents war bit but the part that REALLY bothers me is that they are going the ITC route.
I can understand wanting to monetize the patents they have and pushing back at Apple but really trying to get a injunction like this only hurts consumers. It's totally going against the whole "do no evil" motto.
If you feel you were harmed by somebody stealing your patented ideas then take it out on the company. Hell, letting them sell more iDevices in the mean time could just mean a bigger reward for you if you win.
Actually, both Apple and Amazon sell nice versions with few restrictions if any. So your claim is moot. You can now start paying for things again through them instead of holding up this long false argument.
Install the Amazon Unbox Video Player to download movies and TV shows to your PC. Then you can watch your videos on the go--whether you're online or not."
So in other words I have to use either their crappy streaming service or their crappy video player to watch a movie. Plus it only works on Windows so Linux, Android and Mac are out in the cold. How on earth can you actually say that right there is "few restrictions"?
Until I can download a DRM free copy that will work in any media player on any OS I want then there is no reason I should give them my money. I'm not paying for a crippled product.
Android Police also has an excellent writeup on exactly how much China and the inability of anyone there to legally buy things in the Play Store contribute to piracy statistics on Android.
Basically China accounts for 1/3 of all Android users and they cannot even buy apps OR use in app payment systems.
Oh, also there is more info in here from other developers who find that piracy rates are higher on iOS. Oops.
Exactly, people also seem to forget there are over 80 million legal gun owners in the US with over 300 million guns that do nothing wrong every day.
One psycho shoots a place up and they want to punish millions of responsible people? When does it make any sense to pass laws to regulate less than one part per million away? What could they even possibly pass that would be effective in this case anyways?
I think you would appreciate that for once, the takedown notices have nothing to do with copyright issues and is in the interest of both Apple's customers, and the independent developers that make apps for Macs and iOS devices.
Actually I think that's his point, these takedowns have nothing to do with copyright so what right exactly do they have to get them taken down? If they are using the DMCA to get it taken down they obviously have no valid copyright claim to do it by and are abusing the process.
If they are just asking Youtube to get the videos taken down because they want them disappeared and Youtube is taking them down then this really reflects badly on Youtube more than it does Apple. This is a valid security issue that Apple needs to fix, not just try to hide so taking these videos down is the wrong solution.
Dr. Caron: "These are just a few of the images we've recorded. And you can see, it wasn't what we thought. There's been no war here and no terraforming event. The environment is stable. It's the Pax. The G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate that we added to the air processors. It was supposed to calm the population, weed out aggression. Well, it works. The people here stopped fighting. And then they stopped everything else. They stopped going to work, they stopped breeding, talking, eating. There's 30 million people here, and they all just let themselves die."
I just ran into this same issue, after hearing so much about Spotify here on Techdirt I wanted to see what there catalog was like and what music they had available only to find out that their website has no search function.
OK, fine then, I'll download your app after all and search through everything that way. Oh, I can only create an account by linking it to my Facebook account? Sorry, app deleted and one chance of getting another paying customer lost.
I have a Facebook account but the last thing I ever want to do is use it to log into other sites/services. I hate that I even feel a need to have a Facebook account to keep in touch with friends and the last thing I'm going to do is give them more power over me by using them as a form of authentication.
There are a lot of times I miss my old Palm Pre, it was a fantastic little device and in many ways it was well ahead of its time.
I'm also am very glad that some of the Palm guys went to work at Google and brought along things like swipe to dismiss notifications and closing apps from the recent list. Still, that gesture area was magic and its kind of a shame that will never come to Android.
Also, if you really miss the ability to pull up from the gesture area to quick launch apps somebody did make that for Android. I used Wave Launcher for almost a year before I finally didn't feel a need for it anymore and fully transitioned to the Android workflow. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilemerit.wavelauncher
Add another backer to the list, this looks fantastic.
What we need is more projects like this. Everyone working on this started doing this because it was a story they wanted to tell and they worked their day jobs and used donated time and effort by fellow believers to make it happen. I'm more than happy to pitch in to get the finishing touches put on it.
As far as I know they have 3D printers that work with materials as hard as metals and as soft as wax. A wax print of this would be perfect, when it gets too beat up you can melt it back down and make another.
Actually, if the paid ads at the top of the results are relevant to my search and what I was looking for I click them on principle because I figure its good for everyone that way.
