Uh, Yes, actually. mooo.com is controlled by the TLDs, but x.mooo.com is controlled by mooo.com. So, to take down x.mooo.com, they would need to access and modify servers beloning to mooo.com, rather than asking Verisign to modify mooo.com in their .com servers.
Patent fraud is certainly not a new subject. Ever heard of Elisha Gray? Inventor of the telephone?
The purpose of a patent is to give you a monopoly over the idea while you develop it to prevent a larger, more powerful entity, from coming to market first. Paice had 10 years to develop the idea, but he didn't. By sitting idle while Toyota actually put effort into developing it, at least in my mind, he lost rights to the idea.
I'd be afraid of some stupid lawyer thinking that the lightning-detection makes it even more attractive to lightning, making the phone more dangerous. That, and it could tell you that the lightning is 10 miles away making you feel safe, but then not tell you the storm is 20 miles wide.
Unfortunately, USAPATRIOT has, in fact, provided the framework to make such security probes illegal. It's unfortunate that the company hasn't done any penetration tests, but such a security probe is still illegal, even if he didn't harm anything.
Any portable music player that supports RockBox, which includes most iRiver devices, Toshiba Gigabeat models, SanDisk, and others, supports AAC. And, as for wanting 320Kb MP3s, many studies have shown that, above 192Kb, MP2 sounds better than MP3. AAC sounds just as good as MP2 up in that area, and more devices than you think will support AAC.
Many devices that claim to support Windows Media Audio will work with AAC in a WMA container. That's easy enough to do:
ffmpeg -i MyFile.m4a -acodec copy MyFile.wma
Very nice idea. I figured that maybe they should just outlaw speeding tickets and only issue reckless driving tickets, but I think the multi-level license is a good idea. The problem is, it's very easy to drive well for a test then go out and be stupid on the road. Same with vice versa. (I failed my first driving test because the tester's demeanor scared me enough that my foot was shaking on the clutch pedal and I killed the car a few times because of it)
First, why blame the hacker? If one cracker got in, then the computer didn't have enough security. And, what self-respecting hosting company would be that easy to crack? (liebermann's site)
They're a convienient reminder of things I need to do (Run Spybot, Ad-Aware, etc) and technologies to keep on top of (and off my customers' computers).
