Dear Brian,
Please stop being an entitled idiot. Why is your installation more important than the health or our staff and everyone they come into contact with? We are operating at a time of a global pandemic and situations change on a day-to-day basis.
You need it for school? Well, a lack of forward planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on ours. Did you miss the news for the last 2 months?
Love and hugs,
verizon xx

This seems to have become a bit of a thing in the last couple of years despite a large proportion of Trump's support base only being vaguely aware of where Europe is.
Although, they do know that we are all red socialist, commies and therefore, the US must be better!
If Trump wants to take down every ad that he does not like, what will happen when the election gets into full swing? His lawyers must be rubbing their hands in anticipation!
In most cases, certainly ones involving jail time, I would agree with you.
However, this was a case based on technicalities and the jury made a pig ear of it because they were not technically knowledgable. Overruling a bad jury decision due to having a better understanding seems like a good thing here
America, who have been actually caught spying on its allies and whose NSA has actually been caught modifying Cisco (and Huawei?) kit to add backdoors, is complaining that China may spy on the West - Interesting double standards there.
Add to that the fact that most important communication and all secret communication is encrypted (you know that tech that is dangerous and needs to be compromised for national security) and you get a storm in a teacup.
The one thing the Chinese could potentially do is remotely turn kit off but I would hope that the system designers are more clever than to leave that option open.
How many politicians (on either side of the Atlantic) understand the technology that they all appear to have an opinion about?
The difference in the UK is that the contractors already run their own Ltd companies, with all of the expense that requires (accountants, corporation tax, employer national insurance etc.).
Now the nice people at HMRC (the UK IRS) want to tax the contractor's company as if it were an employee. As well as corporation tax on profits, the company would have to pay income tax on its invoices. Without any of the employee benefits!
While I am off piste anyway - in the UK, unions are very political - they basically run the Labour party so for roughly half the time they have an extremely strong lobby.
I am more of a hobbyist in EDM. I play Bass and Keyboards semi-professionally and EDM production evolved out of having my own studio - plus a bit too much time on my hands :)
Let's face it being a cop (either side of the pond) provides a certain power and generally attracts people that probably should not be given it. Lying and cheating goes with the territory and added to the us vs. them attitude means nothing good will come of it as they will have the support of the cop community.
However, 11 years in jail for DUI when there was no victim and only the testimony of one cop? That goes way beyond cruel and unusual punishment! To me this was the most startling part of the story.

You don't get so sue Walmart when someone buys a knife there and stabs someone with it.
You don't get to sue a record label when someone buys a CD from them and uses the case to smuggle drugs.
You don't get to sue a newspaper because someone bought one of their papers and scribbled defamatory content in it.
And you don't get to sue an online platform because one of the visitors posted illegal content."
No, but there are many who will try!
Without them techdirt would be a very dull place.
