PETA wanted court decision in their favour? Now it's in public interest to finally solve this issue (at least in USA). Court could just appoint guardian ad litem.
It's possible it will depend on interpetation of GDPR by EU Courts. Some online shops do exactly same and they STILL have non-US customers (Those customers use mail forwarding services to actually get goods). If you try to block non-USA cards, some of mail forwarding services will be be glad to provide 'assisted purchase' service. IP Geoblocking will not help too.
It will be interesting how EU will interpret such situations where USA-based company tried hard NOT to sell to non-USA customers but still did it. How much 'hard' is enough?
>Additionally, Plaintiff's wife was born in the Ukraine region and immigrated to the United States over forty (40) years ago; she has never been to Russia.
Really? It depends on what exactly we call Russia. More over 40 years ago so it's 1977 or earlier. Which USA embassy gave visa? Was it USA embassy in USSR which was located in Moscow? So it looks like she took at least brief visit to Moscow. If you think USSR==Russia (which is incorrect but many people think so), she was born in 'Russia'.
But would someone think of Children? Somebody will post material which will be considerd CP by some AGs. Orders will be issued to TAKE!THAT!DOWN!. Not possible? Ok, MAKE it possible or corp's CEO will go to jail until it will become possible. No corporation and just bunch of developers on github - just sue hell out of them and order github to block distribution....
There are solutions to this. Just use services which are NOT in business selling you cloud STORAGE. - Synology is in business selling hardware - they have Audio Station which stores your MP3s on your local NAS and provide 'Cloud' experience, including mobile streaming apps. It's rather user friendly. - Plex - in business selling...well, service (but most of code runs locally, it can run totally local but it will be difficult to use cloud functions). Both audio and video files are supported (DRM is not supported). Data is stored on your local NAS/Mac/PC. They also recently made 'Plex Cloud' so you could use your existing Dropbox/GDrive/etc account as storage. It's very user friendly. - OwnCloud - totally free solution but for people who are ok with renting their VPS and configuring. Can do a lot of things but - Ampache. Some assemly required (but less than for OwnCloud, it's more specialized thing)
It's not that simple. It should depend on AI's well, intellegence. Some time ago some people were also 'a tool used to create a work' and nothing more. This was changed.
Naruto is NOT sapient being by any definition. AI will become fully sapient at some point of time.

>So you'd be ok with a vanilla flavoring company issuing a food safety recall on Vanilla Coke if Coca Cola failed to pay its bills, as long as they didn't go after any other flavors of Coke?
It's not fully clear what exactly happen (RSDN thread says they planned to do something but... ). VMProtect's site has blog post from 6th June http://vmpsoft.com/20170606/vmprotect-and-denuvo-gmbh/ Does it mean they settled?
Re: VMProtect and Sophos deal should be the bigger issue
I used VMProtect (personal license) for my needs long ago and it was my understanding that it was their stated policy 'you leak license key or use it for bad things, we send AV Vendors unique signatures how to detect code signed by YOUR key'(Why? because it was used for many viruses). It's very interesting why it's ONLY Sophos right now.
VPN use in Ukraine will increase very soon. Ukraine goverment decided to impose their own sanctions against Russia. As 'le'ts block access to Russian companies. Including their websites'. This includes Yandex and vk.com who still have A LOT of users. There were several days between announcement and actual block. One of VKontakte's reactions was to send all such users link about how to use anticensorship tools, including VPNs.
Well, it's only USA's idea. If you have to develop software to work with NFC cards, you very likely need ISO 15693. You have to buy it from ISO. (or try to find working draft or get official version in your local language from your local standards organization).
If you need to know what exactly C++ IS... you need to pay for ISO C++ standard (or get latest working draft which is very easy and C++ Standard WG suggest this themselves on https://isocpp.org/std/the-standard).
It's not even Putin. What about embassies? Does this mean it's ok to order diplomats to surrender all their data? How their home countries will react to this?
Also, what about...Russian goverment saying it's ok to ask Yandex any and all information about Americans who use them? (it's unlikely there are many but still) What about them asking same data from Kaspersky? What about Chinese goverment asking Xiomi about data THEY collect? What about EU (or Russian) goverment suing Google in their local courts for privacy violations ? and so on...
So if somebody makes a game on Ender's Game (in addition to book and film) Ender must be punished by official forces for genocide? (and it WAS genocide, even he acknwoledges it. he didn't knew what he did but is that enough of protection?. Military protects him in his jorneys instead).
What about leadership of Starways Congress who sent fleet with MD to Lusitania and ordered it actual usage.
Earth's military leadership must be punished for using child soldiers (hey, they even built big space station JUST for training of said child soldiers)
Shepard in Mass Effect must be court-martialed for at least some endings?
What about... Warcraft series? Almost all heroes should be court-martialed
What about Star Craft 2? Stellar converter is very usuful thing in end-game
What about EVE Online MMORPG? Main punishment for doing something that major empires don't think is ok to do (attacking civilian ships which doesn't even armed) that attacker will die and loose your ship (you can sometimes workaround even this). (after fixing several exploits CCP declared that if you didn't die - it's exploit by definition). This is not particulary harsh punishment for many immortal capsuleers. And civilians (or capsuleers in civilian ships) doesn't have even this protection if they go to less secure space.
Are you sure this is strictly true? IIf we assume that pirated book IS owned...why not buy (ok,'license') books when they are sold without DRM (as in 'you will get epub which can be read using ANY compatible reader, including ones you can write on your own or get sources from github and compile).
like from: - oreilly.com - technical books - smashwords.com - (mostly fiction, no drm) - amazon (books marked 'At the request of publisher.... without DRM' or with 'Simultaneous Device Usage: Unlimited', you need convert mobi file to epub)
It's interesting how both buyers and makers of insecure things will react to: when your device takes part in DDoS attack at one specific site, your internet connection will be cutted (physicall and paper notice will be attached), no matter where you are on Earth(yes, this means some mistakes will happen like cutting apartment complex instead of specific flat). You can sue owner of system which did cutting but you won't get anything from it. If connection is repaired it will work...until it takes part in DDoS again.
Yes, SciFi scenario. One I thinking about using in my book.

It worked for Amazon (issue with Kindle and 1984 which they couldn't sell, yes, they refunded customers but how refund matter here)?
