The only other way they can top the wrinkles they have announced so far is to releases the film on The Pirate Bay as a torrent. My prediction is that they do that within the next two weeks.
The harm is that the other suckers that agreed to pay the NHL for other similar fair uses would start complaining that AMC did not have to pay them. So to keep that from happening, NHL is put in the position of a troll.
So let's get this thing built. I am thinking something like Stumbleupon where you can view a representative's website at random and it is inside of an iframe that will overlay corporate logos and dollar amounts. Maybe they display as animated bar graphs that grow with stacks of dollars. Here is a quick mockup http://nsputnik.com/demint.jpg
I like the "sponsorship patches" idea too. Someone can do a mashup with the data from Open Secrets pretty easily since is is all available as xml and json, and place logos on photos of these politicians or on their websites.
Re: Business Models That Work Great Without Copyright
Why is it the motive of these organizations to destroy creator's rights? What do they have to gain? It is not that they want everything for free. That is such a lame, cop out excuse. They just don't want evil corps. to screw over consumers and artists. They just want things to be more efficient, and that means creating more small and sustainable business. There is no reason to continue to support the huge disparity between the rich and the poor. The poor have every right to fight back and defend their positions.
Just like there is no reason to defend the protections actions of Wall Street, Goldman Sachs, or The Fed. It is not "too big to fail" it's "too much power to exist." Sometimes power becomes so big and concentrated the people need tear it down a bit so it does not have as much power.
The laws are put into place by lobbyist who's clients have commercial interest. Just because something is legal or illegal does not mean it is immoral. Slavery was legal. Interracial marriage was illegal. Gay marriage in some states is illegal. And I won't even get into the laws of some Middle East countries.
Find me a majority of people outside of the business that think predatory lawsuits for file sharing is ethical and moral. The RIAA and MPAA need to take a look in the mirror.
I'm sorry you were not able to create business plan that gave people a reason to buy. You should not work for free. No one pays the entrepreneur and hourly rate when they are in development. The reap the rewards later. The community here at Techdirt are willing to help. You can contact Mike directly.

I don't think you understand. This "arms race" mentality is what got us into the problem in the first place. Developing nations think they want to place the arms race too, but you know they will be happier by not even knowing the arms race exists.
Mike, you know I am a fan of yours and I detest organizations who make statements like NAMP have, but I have a question about your response Israelite's to point 6. If they cannot obtain the name of the accused infringer, how can they put the accused through the judicial system's due process? They can sue them as "John Doe" but that person cannot defend themselves.
You can't just quit ASCAP. If you have registered works under ASCAP you will probably need to remain with them to receive your royalties. Whoever suggested that people join and then quit as a protest knows nothing about how collection societies work.

P2P is a new concept, so it is immoral to use it.
