A jury came up with this verdict! I get chosen for jury duty often, but I have never been on a jury. Every time it gets to the QA part they find out I am capable of using logic and I am dismissed. "You must be one O them thar int-I-lectuals. Dismissed!"
Over the past couple of weeks I have twice had some annoying video ad pop up on this site and I am not sure what triggered it. Once I wasn't even on this tab in firefox. I was on a skype phonecall and suddenly an obnoxious audio started playing. I searched around and it was a video ad on a techdirt tab. I don't block ads and I never had a problem here before these two recent incidents.
You meant "lose". If you were to loose a section of a paper you would be making the paper less tight. And you'd have to throw in an 'n' to make it grammatically correct.
loose == opposite of tight
lose == opposite of win
goose == a big white duck
luze == the way lose would be spelled if english was logical
You completely miss the point. The point I read into the article is that nobody would have gained by having web patented. By arguing that if web was patented there would still be workarounds you are actually making his case.
I was also there at the beginning. I was used to using ftp and usenet and didn't grasp the implications when a colleague showed me the first web page. You still don't seem to have grasped it.
Also, you haven't been paying attention if you think that prior-art would actually keep somebody from getting a software patent.
Remember this is the same supreme court that ruled that corporations are people. They may just rule that software patents are a new life form that deserves protection under the endangered species act.
It seems logically obvious that when you copy a thing there is no theft of the thing, since the owner still has the thing, so nothing was taken from them. But there are ways to think of copying a thing as resulting in theft. One is that the copying of the thing might have resulted in a lost sale of the thing. Having a sale taken can be thought of as the theft of a sale. Another is that the copyright holder has had the copyright taken from him. Sure he still has a piece of paper that says he owns the copyright on the thing. But by ignoring the copyright owner's will the copier has effectively stolen the copyright.
I am simply pointing out that the lines between dictionary definition of theft and the results of copying are not as clear as those that focus only on the copying of the thing itself conclude. It seems like something to consider if you are really trying to have an honest debate about this issue.
Why all the fuss? This copyright thing is getting way out of hand. I have taken many pictures of animals and posted some of them on the net and people are free to do whatever they want with them. What kind of a-hole do you have to be to make a big deal out of some animal pictures? On my planet, this man and his children and his lawyers and their children would all be taken out and immediately shot.
At least by using a moniker you can maintain a consistent persona over time. You can establish a point of view or an agenda for the person behind it from postings they have made in the past on the site. While still being anonymous, it is a whole lot less anonymous than just being an AC. As an AC you can come in one day and say you are an exec at ATT (eg.), and the next day as AC make an argument against net neutrality as though you have no self interest in the matter. AC always says to me that the poster is afraid that what they may have said in the past will taint what they are saying now in a negative light. The "coward" part is very appropriate. (Hence I assume when I see AC posting that that person has an agenda and mentally downgrade their comment to adjust.)
I don't think the police have any right to search through a stack of papers in the driver's seat for a routine traffic stop. Because you ran a red light it gives them authority to search you and your car? Many of the things I see the police doing on that show "Cops" are disgusting and should be illegal.
The government never changes its mind about anything. Whatever stupidity that comes out of them stays with us forever. Proof? Name a law where the govt revisited and said, "Oops, that was a mistake. It didn't actually fix anything. Let's get rid of it."
You sometimes think RP is a crackpot because the ones in power want you to think he is a crackpot so you don't vote for him.
There was recently a piece on the national news (which one? they are all the same) where they gave a 20-30 second intro to all the GOP candidates. Ron Paul they brushed over in 2 seconds by just mentioning his name and that was it.
The idiot masses are brainwashed and controlled and will continue to vote for that which is not in their best interests.
As a congressman Chris Dodd is one of the main architects of the financial crisis that is still upon us. If the entire movie industry went away it would be but a mere fraction of the damage he personally has done to the economy. Let us hope that can do for the MPAA what he has done for America. And to the stupid fools that kept voting this corrupt moron into office, may you rot in hell.
When I recently flew I was both scanned and then patted down (and I had to go through metal detector, too). After reading all your posts how it is one or the other, I feel violated. Who do I sue?

Govt is too dumb and too deep in the pockets of big business to ever consider this. Hence, we are doomed to permanent steady economic decline.
