The problem is obvious: it's not that the "big fish" are afraid they're not making enough money, it's that they're appalled that someone ELSE is making money. It's not my happiness what matters, but how unhappy everyone is compared to me.
Same thing applies to all this entitlement culture: someone else is making money, we must stop that. No matter if they're actually helping US make money also, the trick is to win the money ourselves and prevent their enrichment at the same time.
Well, I guess that any farmhand that works a shift in a farm should give up anything that they invent in their own time, since the farm owns everything that they make, since farming is a competitive market and all that.
Hey, if I work in a repair shop, and one day I invent a new kind of shock absorber at home, the repair shop owns it? Because, you know, they are paying me. To fix cars. And change oil. And stuff... so therefore by your logic if I design a complete car from scratch they should own it.
Or, maybe, just maybe, if I worked as a CAR DESIGNER in an CAR DESIGN company, any CAR that I DESIGN would belong to them? Since, you know, they pay me to DESIGN CARS?
Good point. Now that NLA is no longer aggregated in NewsNow, the users will get their news from the tens of thousands of other sources that NewsNow has, and NLA will lose the free advertising, which will go to their competitors.
Good thing there's a ton of other goodies filling that "empty shell" other than NLA.
You know that grandma that got accused of infringing (sorry, I meant "murder", or was it "stealing"? wait, I know, it was "murderkillstealing") and didn't even own a computer? Gee whiz, that's strike one for Granny! If one day she gets a computer, she'll only have two strikes left!
If only she had stopped sharing "stolen materials" in her non-existing internet connection, she wouldn't have any issues! It's amazing how that works.
Oh, I got a great idea: if anyone uses a phone for unlawful purposes, let's kick them off the phone network! Wait, what's that? You need a known phone number to get a bank account? To get insurance? To call an ambulance? To get contacted by the police or government? Oh, my, well, they could use carrier pigeons instead. It's not like they had phones in the middle ages, and we all know everything was fine and dandy back then.
Really? It "kicks you off the road"? So you can never take a taxi or ride a bus? You have to walk avoiding the known roads, so you can only travel cross country? And if your job requires you to, I don't know, travel from your house to your workplace, you can get fired. Yeah, that's very reasonable. Let's kick everyone off the internet, it's not like anyone needs it. Everyone should go back to the farms and plow the earth for a living. There are no roads there, and probably internet it is not a necessity either.
The word "friend" in Facebook is just a stupid misnomer. Oh look, I've got 5000 friends! They're friends as much as every single person in your cellphone memory is your friend.
Maybe they should bar people from adding other people in their phones, including judges and lawyers! I mean, why would a lawyer need the phone number of a judge? Preposterous.
They came to arrest me yesterday... when I asked, what are the charges? They said, "you were talking about file sharing". They ended up having to arrest themselves, and everything was doubleplusgood.
George Orwell was spinning in his grave, laughing the whole time.
