Google/Alphabet whatever...
Somewhere along the line they made 1 simple decision to streamline their product, it is based on a horribly flawed idea but it protects them from the Content Cartel's and their large cash warchests making their lives suck.
The default assumption is "Only Corporations Can Own Copyrights".
If Google didn't jump when they got a DMCA notice, they got sued & the law promises huge damages, even for shitty claims.
Google started vetting the claims only because of smart moves like the HBO enforcement company demanding HBO.com be delisted.
The law 'suggests' there might be a penalty for bogus claims... you let me know how much those are when they finally happen.
The law clearly defines how high recipients have to jump, how fast, and how much it hurts to even stop and think for a moment.
ContentID "solved" the problem of having to pay humans to make decisions (that even when correct pissed off a corporations who would rattle their sabres to get their way), because only corporations can own copyrights. We'll match everything to content you send us that you 'own' and the world will be better. News report features a video taken by someone else, well there is no way the uploader who put it up 5 days before owns that content, they are time traveling bastards stealing from the poor corporations.
The other fun side effect is "corporations" that exist to just make claims, drop claims, make claims again to steal cash... which has now moved onto pay us (well b/c most YTers don't make that much) or we'll delete you with copyright strikes.
Imagine if someone just used a tiny bit of meta data in the automated system... This video was uploaded 4 days before this new clip was added... perhaps it is the original & should have a human verify this simple fact. Of course then that invalidates a portion of what ContentID scans for & the Cartels can imagine how smart pirates would just fake it all to steal all the content & money from them so we can't have common sense involved.
YouTube gets paid, no matter who gets the revenue in the end.
They have no reason to worry, there are what 10 years of content uploaded each hour, each one churning out a tiny fraction of a cent & as long as Google gets 9/10s of that fraction they are fine with keeping the corps pacified.
Until the law reflects that society has rights & standing enough to be deserving of compensation form the law on par with what corps get, its going to keep being lopsided & abused. Corps talk about how their content is abused & millions of dollars are lost b/c a segment of a tv show using someone elses video existed first, but no one notices the downside of the original is often deleted & that creator wonders why bother because their content can be stolen from them wholesale.
We have a heavily lopsided system that hopefully soon will reach the breaking point where all ideas are owned by corporations & we can just accept the best we cna hope for is Sharknado 89.

A billionaire so hurt by this & he only goes after the platform not the people who said it, because it would be hard to hold the posters accountable.
We need to really mock the idea that suing whoever has the deepest pockets, hell perhaps a law to be added to the Federal Anti-Slapp law we need that when you sue someone for the actions of others you get that tossed & pay their court costs.
If I sued the billionaire directly because someone said something mean to me on property he owned, I'd get laughed out of court. But somehow we add 'on the internet' and common sense goes out with the baby in the bathwater.

Something something laser like focus on how things used to be...
If they get it to work on the C64, next they will get it running on an iPod, then on that indestructable nokia phone!!!!!
The leaps and bounds their legal team takes should scare normal people... its like they all think in 'Butterfly Effect' about how everything results in Nintendo ending up a smoking crater as all of their games are running on unapproved devices!
That Anonymous Coward (profile), 1 May 2019 @ 2:22pm
Now if only we could get them to listen to the experts rather than the lobbyists... but I have little hope of that happening.
On the upside it means its only a matter of time until we get another 'The Internet is a series of Tubes" meme to have blocked by the filters in the EU....

So which elected leader got called a mean name & instead of launching a lawsuit decided to try to pass a stupid law so they will never been offended online ever again?
That Anonymous Coward (profile), 30 Apr 2019 @ 8:38am
I jokingly told Tim that this could happen.
That they would put out the call for all photos people had so they could assemble a giant gigapanorama to make sure they had the best reference shots to work from... and the upload filters would kill it or one of the rights societies would claim ownership of the images killing the entire project.
While it would be a horrible outcome one has to wonder if it would take something this stupid for them to look at the laws they've been pushing forward & finally admitting it has problems.
Historic Landmark left half destroyed because all photos must be mailed with releases form the picture taker and the rights owner allowing them to be used to save it, then having to scan each photo & make sure it bears all of the rights information...

"could be indirectly responsible"
Perhaps positions for life is a really bad idea...
A court codifying that personal responsibility no longer exists or matters & you can just sue the deepest pockets as long as you and string together a theory.
We want you to allow you to this case to go forward!!!
Oh you violated someones rights but were the first one to do it that way... QI for you!
Justice stopped being blind and I think we need to get her on some meds of this MPD diagnosis.

Well someone has his eye on a higher office.
Its a pity he wants to get there wasting time, money, effort on feeding the insane idea that twitter is banning conservatives.
Twitter isn't good at moderation, but had it occurred to any of them yet that outside of their personal bubble people find them to be insulting and assholes? That wrapping yourself in the flag of they had me because I'm conservative you overlook the really simple answer of more people think you are an asshole than a good guy. That in the market place of ideas, your ideas offend enough people who do something about it you get a time out.
Nah that would require more self awareness than any politician is capable of...

Something something persecution complex....
Of course it appeals to the base
"They" are coming for us & our values!!!!
Still not seen a single law throwing priests in jail for being mean to teh gays.
OMG they forced him to support a gay marriage by baking a cake!
And the first time a gay baker says fsck your 1st Communion Cake, they are ready to sue all the way to SCOTUS b/c it infringes on their rights.
The war on Christmas!!!!!!!!
Honest, not everyone in this country is Christian (despite what you all want to believe) so Happy Holidays is a nice way to include everyone.
Rights & Respect are not fucking cake!
If others get a slice it doesn't mean less for you, stop behaving like only your rights and beliefs matter & if anyone dares challenge the status quo in a changing world that you are under attack.
They want to bitch about how they get flagged as NeoNazis... perhaps the computer has the balls to tell you what those outside of your personal bubble want you to understand.
Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, goosesteps like a duck... its a duck.

Gee, perhaps accepting promises, from those who champion keeping the tax code indecipherable, about helping those who qualify file for free to do so and turn away an extra couple of bucks is a dumb idea.
But then we have two sides voting to keep this stupidity & make it worse every year... perhaps all these years of wasting our tax dollars has made them think we all have plenty of extra money to give corporations so they can make 'contributions' so we can pay them even more money...

Its almost like the legal system is lopsided to those with IP who claim they were harmed...
We didn't enforce our ip for a long time, but now we are so make them cover out bills.
We didn't have any proof the billpayer was the infringer, but don't you dare make us pay them for defending themselves against our case.
Of course everyone will still show up at SDCC, because they fear missing out. It would be nice if the fans made a point of skipping it & being loud about it to the big names who roll things out there. Supporting someone who thinks they have the right to control an entire fandom seems like a really bad play that is only going to make there be fewer... so what if you can't afford SDCC prices, we killed your local events so we're the only game in town. Pissing on fans used to be a sure way to destroy your brand, but now they just enjoy the refreshing shower.
