You seem to think that not sharing is always immoral. Which is just a reduction to absurdity about what I'm saying. I'm saying that, under some circumstances (IE: famine and greed) not sharing can be immoral. Greed is not immoral (since it's only a feeling or whatever), but the action you take to satisfy your greed can be. In this case, stockpiling a much needed good is immoral (doing it BECAUSE you're greedy is not). The opposite of it: sharing.
I'm sure there was some basis of Western morality long before a bunch of guys got high one day and decided to write The Bible.
It could be worse. The students could learn, wrongly, that they need the approval of every subject they interview or quote. That would be bad for their skills to report accurately.
Crusade journalism! Like, the kind that seeks the truth no matter what? In the face of opposition, government strong-handed tactics, threats and intimidation? Journalism that doesn't roll over the second they are offered free lattes? Oh no, I fear for our future now.
FACT: Most of the people that didn't spend a dime on this movie, didn't pirate it at all (they didn't even watch it). FUN ASSUMPTION: Not pirating this movie causes people to not spend any money on it.
Well, TV channels have the advantage that they put the commercials themselves. It's not like they give you an user and password and tell you "upload your ad here and our automatic software will play it later". Doing that in a social network or twitter or whatever would be impossible, since every single post would be pending approval by Google before going online.
Making Google responsible is akin to making the real-estate companies responsible if some crime is commited by someone that purchased a house from them.
"...we've seen stories about how forms of Brazilian music have thrived by taking advantage of the easy promotion and distribution allowed by file sharing."
Suuure, I bet that only works for grammy-award winning musicians that are also former Ministers of Culture with... alliterative names. Thing.
I'd say the difference between broadcast, twittering, or sending a messenger pigeon outside the courtroom is irrelevant, obviously what they want to forbid is any kind of communication from within the court while it's in session. So it makes sense that it's a "broadcast" even if by that standard any internet post is a broadcast (I don't think they would allow you to FTP upload files to your web host from your ssh-enabled cellphone either, if they even knew what it is - a cellphone, I mean).
On the other hand, why they forbid communication to the outside or whatever, I have no idea. Maybe they want to secure the movie rights, and make sure there are no leaks?
Instead of a lawsuit, they should give Twitter a prize... like a nobel prize or something. A piece of software that can impersonate a person is pretty hardcore. Soon we'll have Twitter-droids walking around the streets like real humans.
Re: Re: Re: The solution is, unfortunately for Mr. Masnick, to use more cameras. . .
I agree that drivers need to be retrain to be more law abiding. They should install devices that give little electric shocks to drivers that speed or violate other traffic laws, and that pet them and give them treats whenever they stop in time or correctly signal a turn.
Why exactly doesn't Google take the first steps and remove those sites itself? It would save Murdoch the work of having to open robots.txt in his notepad. I'm sure he will be very happy about it... no more aggregator, no more Google Search results about him or his newscorp.
