Jesus was quite the rebel when he was around, wasn't he? He was even friendly with some prostitutes (not because he was interested in their services, natch) while the establishment wanted him dead and, I imagine, all evidence that he ever existed erased.
Edward Snowden may be no Clark Kent, but the emphasis on him being one guy is really ticklish the more I think about it. Only video game protagonists are able to topple empires single-handedly like that.
"I think you all know why I've called this meeting. It's no secret that an intruder has been embarrassing all of you in an effort to fight me, and what really blows my mind is that I used the singular, didn't I? I didn't say an army of enemies had breached our defenses and was rushing toward my fortress. No! I didn't say that, did I? I said AN intruder! An! One! One guy!"
Good points, though I wonder... would Microsoft really have done nothing if it weren't for Sony? Look at how Windows 8 has disappointed over the last year or so and Microsoft has been forced to modify it into what people want because their customers refused to upgrade instead of flocking to other operating systems.
I hope so, but they still seem to be acting begrudgingly, and from what I understand Microsoft's corporate culture is one that resents having to explain why their latest ground-breaking invention is actually ground-breaking. That alone probably means it will take several years to turn their ship around.
The thing is, it wasn't a scenario where the public spoke and Microsoft listened. Instead it was more like the public screamed and Microsoft was forced to comply because mob justice is what it freaking takes to get anything done anymore.
Microsoft has worked REALLY hard to ensure that the Kinect is a no-win scenario for them. They bet everything they had on it and lost.
Ironically, even this capitulating to consumer demand is ham-fisted and poorly thought out. Harmonix, who's been developing the Kinect game Fantasia: Music Evolved, now feels like it's been thrown under the bus, as does every other developer that was making a Kinect game under the assurance that it wouldn't become a throwaway peripheral. Despite the consumer pressure, Microsoft should have been cleverer and waited until those games were released, but instead it's trying to pretend it's the leader in this race, resulting in a disaster that feels like the Sega 32X all over again.
I can’t help but notice that its entire mission to define a next-generation console has consisted of reversing all of its ambitions and instead doing everything Sony does. Who’s the one doing the defining, again?
What's so unbelievable about a poorly thought out fake vaccination campaign causing collateral damage by discrediting legitimate vaccination campaigns?
I haven't heard anything out of him since he was permanently disbarred. He swore that wouldn't be the end for him, but it was just bluster, the only thing that's ever come out of his mouth. Has he actually done anything lately other than be defeated and irrelevant?
I'm reminded of the sad tale of Super Retro Squad. A spiritual successor to Super Mario Crossover, it was supposed to be greater than the original while also being free of copyright entanglements. But Exploding Rabbit got in over its head, having not even enough experience to realize that the members of a development team ought to be paid regularly, and I'm not sure how successful the game would have been upon completion anyway since the classic gaming mascots were the whole reason anyone cared about the original.
The game burned through all of its Kickstarter funding and ended up put on indefinite hold, and though the development process was a parade of errors, I'm not sure I'd go so far as to want to see the law come down on everyone involved. But then again, I wasn't a backer since the game's original cast didn't inspire confidence. (Two German miners named Manni and Lanzo who have to save the princess of the Asparagus Kingdom? Really?)
Somehow, bottled water always tastes stale to me and makes me even more thirsty. I don't find it tasty or refreshing at all unless it comes from the kitchen tap.
In times of distress, always seek out the comedians. A big reason why jokes are funny in the first place is because they're true on some level, otherwise they wouldn't make any sense, so a skilled comedian is an important source of honesty.
Consider this: isn't the modern message that you aren't a real adult until you've been riding the old bone rollercoaster just as oppressive as the ancient message that all sex is evil? Both are rather extremist views that no healthy person should adopt.
I've never seen what kind of empowerment goes with the freedom to choose whether you want to spread around nude pictures of yourself anyway. Heck, one girl I specifically told not to do that no matter how much she liked me. There are much more substantial forms of empowerment, like learning to drive or fly or sail, making sculptures, hosting MST3k movie nights and LAN parties, joining the navy, caring for pets, etc. Sexuality just seems so... shallow in comparison, and modern society's overbearing emphasis on it is enough to make one celibate for life.
That's a pretty bad criticism. Does who we are not affect our outlook on life? Might even the personal opinion of an economist be valuable since the years he's dedicated to his field of specialty cause him to see everything in terms of economics? Do such tinted perspectives not provide valuable insight to those who don't have them?
That adult response is a glimmer of hope. It may be foolish to think that the NYPD will now take steps to become less threatening than the criminals it's supposed to apprehend, but it would also be foolish to not capitalize on this opportunity to have mature discussions about how the NYPD has made everyone less safe. They've seen what the public thinks of them, so now it's time to take the next step in reforming them before they can relapse.
I think he's actually talking about how Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, which makes him correct. Heck, it was seen as kind of a disgrace even before the NSA fiasco started since he hadn't seem to do anything to earn it other than have skin that makes him more resistant to the sun's ultraviolet radiation.
This Country Is In No Shape To Judge Threats Anymore
If it were, then I'd say if a kid makes a stupid, baseless threat on Facebook and gets caught, then he should be sentenced to some community service. But until the USA gets over its terrorism obsession, even baseless threats are going to be interpreted in the worst way possible and a lot of relatively (emphasis on relatively) innocent people are going to get unjustly imprisoned.
