"If the NSA is now stripping out eateries as possible connectors, it could very well be filtering out links to terrorists."
The patterns between any two events will by subtly different. Those subtle differences will lead to finding more than you can handle or missing what you need.
Please, it is not that complex. Run two levels of encryption, one that is trusted like we do now for web sites, and another underneath that is public-private key generated at both ends. It does not matter if they have hacked the routers, switches or even have the root certificates for the entire internet at that point all they get is noise.
Multiple instances are discussed of him claiming connections where none actually existed.
It comes from statistics, and having too much data. You expect to find the bad guys, then think you have, only to be proven wrong. So you redouble your efforts, and start getting more false positives. Which you believe is a true conspiracy of bad guys. Rinse lather repeat ... and grab a straightjacket for the paranoid delusions that are just around the conspiracy corner.

Now that people know the backdoors are there they will be found in short order. I wonder if the NSA could be sued for the cost of replacement hardware.
When I first read this the indiegogo campaign. I thought the NSA is going to shut them down, the last thing they want is an easy to use e-mail encryption program.
Well what do you know, something that could actually shut down the e-mail gathering capability of the NSA, now without funding ... it makes one wonder
This is an extension of everything the US government has been doing wrong for the past several years. Every time they get caught with their hand in the over reach cookie jar, they yell "it is a secret and it must remain so". The gag order is nothing more than an attempt to hide the truth. They harassed a person to the point that he got fed up, and he spoke out inappropriately. Then they went after him just to shut him up. Talk about thin skinned.
