But you can't legislate the editing. So you legislate the warning label, and when companies don't have that label on their ad, you know they're a responsible advertiser. Can you imagine if you're the first company that doesn't have to put the warnings on your ads? How much free publicity would they get from that?
Because one is changing reality, and another one is just using rose-colored glasses. It's entirely possible to remove pimples for most people. It's not possible to change bone dimensions and body fat content without causing extreme health problems. That is the difference.
The government makes me give them money all the time. If I don't pay my taxes, I get thrown in jail. The recording industry is lobbying for and getting laws that enshrine their business model into the code of our society. It is the way the world works... just because it's morally wrong and asinine doesn't make it incorrect.
I actually just did that. Dumped cable, and I use my PS3 hooked up to my big screen, and Hulu is available via a $40 server I purchased called PlayOn for my desktop computer/server. Works pretty well, considering the whole DRM cat and mouse crap that goes on. They change something to disable 3rd party redirection, then PlayOn updates, etc.
So he's saying that all readers steal his words for their own work? Or that he wants to "license" his ideas to every reader, and he doesn't think the people who own patents on parts of his chainsaw should get the same privileges? I'm confused.
The point is that it's the banks paying for that security. It's not the banks requiring that the neighborhood around them (even if they don't use the bank) install all the security cameras and such.
If the industry wants to finance upkeep and installation of all the filtering, that's one thing. But they want to enact laws to force other people to take care of their job. Screw that.
Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
The Redskins are burning some serious goodwill. Screw them. There's a reason I don't go to pro sports games any more... there's no respect for the fan. I'm finding more and more people that think the same way I do. Pro sports is just becoming... blah. Nobody cares, it's not "their team" any more.
I don't know who wrote the passage that Techdirt quoted about all the non-industry players, but it just grates on me. "Who's" does not mean "whose". They mean very different things, even if they sound the same. Homophones are hard, kids!
