Hey, guys, our colonies are asking for independence! How funny! They wouldn't be able to amount to anything without us. I think I'll just tell them no. What're they gonna do, rebel?
Make them non-transferable, with the only legal licenses being for actual use? That way you'd need to actually innovate in order to own an innovation, and litigation-oriented businesses wouldn't be able to increase their arsenal.
There'd still be problems with the number of patents and stuff, but that one problem would be solved.

"To account for the idea that this might have been due to a sudden drop in demand, she also researched the number of RFPs (requests for proposal) that were sent out for both medical imaging storage systems and textual data storage systems -- and saw both continue to increase at pretty massive rates."

"But the gist of it is that Amazon bought ebooks for wholesale prices and set its retail ebook prices at no greater than $9.99, no matter what they paid for it, even if they had to take a loss."
Digital distribution does not work that way. They do not need to order new ebooks every time someone buys one from them.
"We’ll see more small-budget or amateur films, and fewer major studio films. These movies, he suggested, are the iconic ones that people remember and reference, so piracy may have an important cultural impact."
He might have a point here. What movie could possibly be widely remembered and referenced if it had low production values?
Do you have any coherent objections to this article, or are you just going to keep rephrasing "Mike disagrees with the court's decision" in the hope that we get annoyed and give up?
There's no right answer to "is Google in the same business as Rosetta Stone" or "does Google act to remove infringing material once it becomes aware of it"?
Actually, I like this idea. Most of the rest of our culture already revolves around search engines. It makes sense to try to adjust our language accordingly.
What are you, some kind of Communist? Those rich enough to afford higher education need people to collect their garbage and cook their food. That's what poor people are for. To suggest that the country would be enriched by having all of its citizens get educations is simply ludicrous. These textbook companies are performing a public service by ensuring that we have a constant supply of cashiers and sanitation engineers, and the open source movement is a clear threat to that noble cause.

We must ensure that digital playgrounds don't become digital playgrounds. Makes sense.
