This is just a continuation of whats been going on for a very long time. We had Fusion Terrorism Centers doing deep background on some Grandma's who dared to protest a bank by applying chalk to sidewalk. Somewhere in my memory were charges (possible federal) charging a kid did 100's of thousands in damage to a bank by calking the sidewalk.
The tools we let them have to keep us 'safe' always end up being misused against us... and there is never a downside for those misusing them. How many stories have we had about creeper cops using the databases to try and setup dates with cuties they pulled over, ex's they want to stalk, etc.
Our government has falling in the the same trap we've seen over and over and over...
Protecting our image is job number one!
The DOJ stood in a courtroom & said outloud that reasonable doubt didn't matter. That just accepting their narrative was the correct thing to do, so they could punish the people who were at a protest (who clearly did nothing wrong but should be responsible for the actions of others) to remind people protesting against the government is bad.
Corporations with political ties manage to avoid investigations into predatory behaviors, but the law gleeful supports their right to prey on citizens. (see also 3000% interest rates on payday loans).
Corporation alleges a website is stealing their music, website taken & held... evidence never appears & they still drag their feet returning it.
Someone alleges someone with power did them wrong, their story is attacked while the accused is treated very fairly (and if you reverse the roles you knwo what happens).
We have to hide these things otherwise the terrorists will win!
We have to have this power so we can catch the terrorists! (pay no attention to the fact we used this law for almost exclusively for drug warrants).
We don't break the rules of engagement, ignore that video, ignore we tried to get the whistleblower to commit suicide in custody, ignore we are still trying to arrest & punish the leader of the platform who made us look bad.
Broken system is broken, and it just gets worse as long as we allow them to prey upon our fears to chip away rules, laws, oversight allowing them to do all the things they swore they would never do.
We have a zone 100 miles inland from the border that suspends our rights... all in the name of safety! Yet it doesn't stop terrorists & had enabled a couple serial rapists & serial killers who had CBP badges to hunt... but reporting on that gets you on a watchlist so you can be harrassed so maybe you won't make them look bad... they care more about how they are seen then if they are putting a serial killer out there to hunt.

And what portion of any of that matters?
They took content that wasn't theirs, ignored her simple request to be credited, then went full stalker on her to save their account because she invoked her rights.
Then they compounded it by lying to Twitter that someone uploaded it to them so they are in the clear.
They have now thrown the lawyer under the bus & are pretending they are sorry. They are sorry they got caught & might lose access to an outlet they seem to depend on.
But then what else would you expect where a job perk is listed as female interviewee's??
That Anonymous Coward (profile), 5 Mar 2019 @ 12:43pm
We're gonna blame it all on teh Twitters because they let mean people call us out for being stupid in the past.
Copyright law is a clusterfuck, Twitter has a very clear policy.
Barstool fscknuggests have done this enough times that when they ripped off another person they came very close to having their account closed b/c they are a repeat infringer of others content.
One also wonders how many claims they have faced lifetime just so we can see how much of their budget is now set aside to pay people off to retract strikes rather than get clearances.
Barstool screwed this up.
Not Twitters fault, not Miel's fault.
Barstool took someone elses content & pretended it was theirs.
(Anyone want to put in the 3 minutes to find the owner screaming at someone who 'stole' their work?)
They ignored her really polite request just to be credited.
Then they decided she shoudl take merch from them...
And they should bury every single online account with any connection to her with OMG CHECK YOUR DM'S GIRL.
(Like that needy guy who lives in his moms basement who keeps calling you after the blinddate when you crawled out the bathroom window to get away from him).
Then they offer actual money b/c they figured out they have screwed themselves with their actions.
Then they lie to Twitter.
Shame there is no penalty for them doing it.
(though I have to suspect with all of this coverage Barstool might need to turn itself over so they can figure out how fscked they really are.. admitting on twitter you lied to twitter about a legal document you sent them... Pretty sure that might be a bigger sin than getting copyright strikes).

If fair use is such a burden, let us roll back the expansive handouts of extensions we've given them.
It is supposed to benefit us but I am really hard pressed to see how the public is getting any benefits.
Laws killing memes
Laws killing content they don't control
Laws killing technological advancement
Fair use is so very mean to them... if we just did away with it then that damn dancing babies family would have coughed up the $150K the law says we deserve! That video cost us trillions of dollars in losses!!
Lets take back the extensions they wanted, because they have tormented those of us who agreed to grant them exclusive rights for a limited time in exchange for fair use & the public domain, they've been trying to kill fair use and they had killed the public domain for a very long time. Let us go back to a simpler time where 'limited time' didn't mean 4 human life spans.

You know all of those things we're not supposed to do, but were covered up to protect the image of the military... maybe its not the only thing cops took from the military with the ribbons.
Lots of people lost their lives, but since we couldn't see it they pretended it never happened. Like that reporter who was murdered b/c his camera lens "looked" like an RPG and not because his reporting wasn't glowing worship of 'Merica.
They claim everything is a secret, the the point of ridiculousness.
Many of the secrets only put careers at risk, not lives but letting people know we're breaking our own rules & everyone is looking away who is supposed to do something about it.
Don't want people to leak?
Stop covering up bad acts b/c image matters more than anything else.

Dear Telcos....
When you manage to kill off those few tiny competitors who upset you greatly... who do you think your cohorts are gonna look at to destroy next?
Survival of the fittest... and you fat, 4 pack a day smokers, with gilded CEO paychecks are easy targets. Its gonna be funny watching your fat asses in your hoverrounds jousting with each other trying to win a game you rigged for decades. You captured legislators & the federal agency who is supposed to be on our side... what happens when the favored son of one of your competitors gets the top spot & sets his sights on you at the bod of his masters.
I hope you manage to slit your own throats as you kill your enemies, we all know where it went wrong last time & we won't go back.
That Anonymous Coward (profile), 4 Mar 2019 @ 10:58am
From the nation that brought you the idea that their law was more powerful than math... we bring you do not upset your betters.
We want to make sure the old man who had power & diddled kids can have a fair trial (funny that New Corp is getting owned in this as one of their reporters was claiming the trial was nothing but an attack on Catholics for being catholic & not raping kids).
I guess reporting that Pell said abortion was a worse sin than raping children might have messed up his chances, but he was in the media making statements that were covered saying this was a crock, etc. etc.... heaven forbid the media cover his trial & report the truth to people.
