Abolish copyright completely. Finagle artist 'paternity' right in under Trademark law instead, the work then being part of the artist's brand and protected as if it were their logotype.
This forces the artist to maintain their rights without bullshit life+70 year extensions, prevents commercial abuse of the work, moving the whole problem of plagiarism and illicit sales into a purely commercial venue rather than burden both consumers and courts with reversed burden of proof legislation.
I could live with that framework. In fact, every original or public domain piece of music I made is licensed with an Attribution-Noncommercial Creative Commons license, because
-trying to prevent copies on a copying machine is a fool's errand, and
-I actually want people to make adaptations of my work.
It's just that if people want to make commercial use of my work, I would like some compensation, and that can't be done without the noncommercial clause of the license.
I'll take "worst imaginable democracy or republic". It's just that "America has the worst possible system of government" which meant that the US's system of government is worse than dictatorships or political monarchies (i.e. Monarchies where the Monarch has political power and isn't a mere figurehead).

Quite frankly, my 2016 rig is holding up just fine (but then again, I bought a GPU before the prices spiraled out of control). Also, considering that the PS5 is also out of stock in many places, gaming is becoming an expensive habit to maintain…
Apple will routinely claim they're only concerned about consumer privacy and security
Which is, like the subject claims, bovine feces. They're interested in control. That's basically their business model. It's getting harder and harder to run a program on the Mac without Apple's permission (still possible, thank god, but it's difficult). That's the only thing I can conclude from them as an Apple user.
Re: Re: Re: isn't "representative" government somewhat obsolete?
Totally agree. I've heard some people be advocates of sortition for choosing public officials, and if you consider that it means choosing leaders and legislators by the same process jurors for trials are chosen, that's madness. I mean, think about it, as bad as Trump was, what if some rando was chosen out of a hat for president? I know it sounds silly to think it could be worse, but I believe there's a Jewish folk tale with the moral saying that it can indeed happen…
But they wouldn't dare address the monopolies inherent with the telecoms. It would be like corporations addressing the "labor shortage" with higher wages. It's a third rail. That's how you know all of this is performative grandstanding bullshit.

Luckily, there's ranked choice in some places in the US, such as NYC during the primaries. So we may be getting there; it's just a steep hill to climb.

To be fair, far more liberal courts would protect hate speech. Just look up Skokie or Brandenburg for just two cases as evidence.

The thing is, Android is open-source and you can use the Android OS without google. You cannot do the same with iOS without breaking © law.
