We at the ICE would like to announce that we have seized all websites controlled by the Swiss government for their stance on the illegal distribution of copyrighted works. They are costing American rights holders billions of dollars each year with this decision, and it will not be tolerated.
Aren't the copyright holders looking for exactly that? They have been loosing in courts in many cases. If they can begin the choking process on starving sites for money even before a hearing can be scheduled they are all ready one step ahead. Not having to involve the courts makes puts the advantage on the side of the plaintiff rather than them being on equal footing.
I agree, I found myself questioning my moral compass recently when I was sniping the enemy as they approached my hide. I knew that they would do anything to save each other so instead of shooting to kill, I shot to wound. I would get them in the stomach and let them suffer to draw out the squad mates. Then as they came into view I would do the same to them. Eventually they would die, but not before demoralizing the rest of them. They grew more desperate as their friends screams became more muffled and began to fall silent.
Or that was a scene from a movie I once saw. Given the realism of today's video games I find it hard to discern right from wrong, reality with fiction.
Since Halo was the one to make that a thing, I would say that given its location on a distant far away ring rules of the terrestrial Earth need not apply.
The problem is that at the moment with bills like S. 1867, PIPA, and SOPA, who are the terrorists. I know that they are supposed to be some kind of religious fringe group bent on destroying the american way of life, but I think that our own government is doing a better job than they ever have.
The only analogy that I see working here is the frog in hot water. Place a frog in a boiling pan of water, and it will jump out. Place that same frog in a pan of room temp water, and it will stay there and boil to death.
9/11 was boiling water and the american people reacted quickly and demanded the perpetrators be brought to justice.
Re: "you should be able to buy the DVD of the movie you just watched"
You have got to be kidding me! That doesn't even make a damn bit of sense. You must be waiting for that check to clear before you go full on corporate shill again? Copyright is why this is happening. These companies may think that they own a product, but what they are doing really is locking up our culture and keeping it away from the people that want it. What the internet has done has leveled the playing field against these assholes. Now they have to work on our level, not us asking them to please let us see it. They have two choices.
1- Work with us and companies like Spotify, Hulu, and Netflix. All the content to be seen when and where WE like for a reasonable price.
2- Die a slow painful death at our hands, while we still watch and listen to what we want and where we want.
Its up to them to get paid or have it pirated. Sticking your hands over yours ears going "NO NO NO, IM NOT LISTENING" is not going to change anything. Making it a felony with unrealistic penalties is not going to change it. Its just going to change how it gets pirated.
People have a strange way of not liking be told that they can and cannot do something because some company exec says so. They like it even less when that same company buys new laws to that same end.
Re: Two major flaws: only US traffic, of only Bittorrent.
1/10 OOTB. You should go get some coffee or something. You usually set a high bar for the other trollholios around here, but that was pathetic. I expect much better than this of you.
Well that is relative. Actually speaking of the act of piracy, it costs them nothing. There is no way to truly say that everyone who downloaded a movie or CD would have paid for it otherwise. So they have no real loss there, but if you look at what they spend on lobbying at state and federal levels. The researchers they employ to track it. The lawyers they higher to sue and litigate in their name. The fees they pay to groups like the RIAA. Suddenly you can see why it costs them so much.
Oh for the love of vegetables. Next thing you know there will be a commercial with a parachuting turnip for a farmers market that could confuse customer so much that Chick-fil-A could go out of business.
Re: Re: Re: "Storage capacity of several Petabyte" -- All legal content, eh?
I know that, thats the point. Who gets to decide what is, and what is not fair use. There are those out there who feel that me doing that is NOT fair use, and is somehow infringing upon them.
Re: "Storage capacity of several Petabyte" -- All legal content, eh?
You have to be kidding that you have /NO/ copyrighted material on your computer. You have /never/ right clicked and pulled a funny picture to your desktop or set it as a background? /Never/ posted it as a profile picture on facebook, or uploaded it to /share/ with a friend?

These bills (PIPA, SOPA etc) and its predecessors. http://www.projectcensored.org/top-stories/articles/2-bush-moves-toward-martial-law/. Is our government slowing turning up the heat with all of us sitting in the water. We need to speak up, and we need this trend to stop.
