If they made it free then they'd be "forced" to add a $5-per-month fee to everyone's bill to compensate. They'd probably call it a "dispute review compensation fund" fee or something like that.
It points out one of the problems with automatic copyright. If works had to be registered by the creator for copyright to apply, this situation would be completely irrelevant. Perhaps you don't know what kinds of things we talk about here?
"Rather than sharing with all your "friends," Google lets you classify them into different groups, and makes it easy to choose who sees what. It's one of those features that makes you wonder why Facebook never offered it."
Facebook does have that. I have a group specifically for people from work and a group that's specifically family, so I can share old family photos with just family, for example. Maybe Google+ makes it more obvious, but Facebook does have this.
I read about this yesterday, and I'm skeptical that this means what people (including you, Tim) think it means. I would try confirming your interpretation of these lines with Capcom if I were you.
It would only be recent (Starz) movies from Sony that are on Watch Instantly. Honestly, things come and go all the time, so I doubt I would have noticed either. The only ones I've had bump out recently are "Legion" "The Other Guys" and "Resident Evil: Afterlife".
I would have added "Laziness"; they didn't write the bill, why would they want to bother editing it? It's much easier to just approve the version the lobbyists wrote for them.
Mike, you're such the eternal optimist. I predict strong apathy on the part of the vast majority of people, and some grandstanding politicians that will ultimately accept vague meaningless promises that it won't be abused and stop fighting, pretending it's a great victory.
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if companies are actually more vulnerable, as they've been running lean IT staffs or outsourcing because "IN THESE HARD TIMES" they don't want to spend more than the bare minimum on making sure things keep working. Any competent software developer creating an online banking system would not make non-logged-in accounts visible.
Now, with Chinese infringement shut down, they will spend the thousands of dollars per year on our movies, music, and software that they have been stealing.
Exactly. My first thought reading this was of South Park. We can't let fear govern our actions, or we give up our freedom to anyone who would threaten us.
I would make that argument. Links on the internet are soft, and can change at any time. You shouldn't hold people liable for what's behind their links to others' pages. The people actually responsible for the content, not the finding of it, should be held responsible.
Case in point: I don't think Google should ever be liable for child porn if it turns up in search results. If notified, they should probably de-index it, but they certainly shouldn't be arrested.
Keep in mind that this is the company that makes the Nexus S. It's not surprising, based on that fact, that they'd be more open to less-restricted phones than other manufacturers.
Soon the title will have "Updated" in it, and there will be additional information at the bottom or mixed into the paragraphs with strikeouts. At least he doesn't pretend his mistakes or incomplete information never happened.

When they added it, it was easy. Then it was hard for a while. Now it's easy again.

Facebook does offer it
