Not bad. My stats reflect how much I like to read and interact here ;-)
As for john, I noticed he vanished for a while. Life can be an asshole so I do hope it's only one of those moments it hits you like a truck but you are still good enough to make a come back. When you follow a site, interacting or just lurking, you start paying attention when people vanish. I personally get that emphatic worry when they disappear for more than one vacation period.
I advise you go for a psychiatrist. You'll find out that the existence of this site does not matter if you don't bother reading it. You'll also find out that the writers probably don't give a shit about you so you are inflicting the poison of hatred on yourself alone.
Even if the fake icann site still lives, why wait for ICANN or eNom to take action? Why not the authorities simply don't track the thing and nab the criminals behind it?
I would like to be doing more to help but this last 1 and a half year have been pretty harsh on me. In any case you have my thanks for all the work and for enabling Techdirt with all its articles and the community. This is one of the very few sites I engage with passion.
I wish all of us here, writers, readers, lurkers, trolls, partisan folks and so on a much better 2017.
As for the article, I believe humanity evolves like a coil or an ascending spire. We are now facing a downward movement that will meet the 'bottom of the pit' with bad consequences. But this bottom of the pit is in a higher and more evolved position than the last time we hit it. And I also believe it will be a much more intense downward movement but the recovery will also happen in a much quicker way. So I agree with you. Dark times ahead but the future will inevitably be better.
The beauty of humanity is that each person is a whole different world. As there's this saying here: "Taste is like assholes. Everybody has a different, unique one."
"A patent granted in 2012 details an in-car dock for cell phones that won't allow the vehicle to turn on until the device is docked and in hands-free mode."
What if you don't have a phone? What if is not an Apple? What if you have at least TWO phones at all times (my case till they started releasing decent dual chip phones).
This lawyer is disgusting. He/she just want to extract money from the family and attempt a nab at Apple (hope for a miracle). If the family also know this isn't going anywhere then you can add shameless exploitation of the death of a kid to extract money from big company in the soup. But alas, let us assume the lawyer is clueless as well and add to the score of ignorance.
Is it just me who thinks that even though we are heading to tragic times this whole circus is actually comical too? And now we got in the center stage a guy who can't even articulate coherent sentences. No seriously, life gets lighter if you see the comedy in it.
But pigeons are dangerous. They carry PAWs that can and will be used with staggering precision against the citizenry in atrocious terrorist acts. Think of the children!
As someone who isn't from the US, center-left oriented (that's the best I could come with but it's not quite right) I personally thing both D's and R's are terrible. And while I agree with you I can see his point as well. Even though both 'teams' are bad and spew bad ideas I do think the R party manages to be worse by a few degrees of magnitude. And the people who generally think the R's are good also call for military intervention and a totalitarian regime. So... Yeah.
I'm not taking any sides, there seem to be good Republican politicians here and there but generally speaking R's are a world of bad worse than D's. That coming from a person (me) who thinks Hillary is more of everything that's wrong with the US. Trump? I'd rather not delve into it and let him speak. Suffice to say that the bigotry is the least worrying part of him.
As far as I can see, every piece of legislative discussion/vote/whatever, every judicial hearing, every action by the executive that directly impacts the lives of the citizens should be public. Actual exceptions for very few instances such as military/security related discussions very narrowly defined. So, almost all hearings should be public.
But then again, this would be in an ideal world where politicians actually represented their constituents.
"In response, the agency sent him partially redacted copies of those same two rejections. "
Due to my browser configurations the frame right after that phrase is completely blank unless I take action, which made me giggle a little because even before checking anything I already knew a blank frame has the same impact/utility the partially redacted document probably had.
Oh it does. It's just that the benefits won't be exactly as everybody wishes but rather 'average benefits' that reach all instead of awesome benefits that reach a few.
"But he chose to do it anyway, most likely because the worst case scenario is what he's experiencing now: an Internal Affairs investigation and a suspension. If he truly thought he'd lose his job, he likely would have shown more restraint."
This can't be emphasized enough. The abuses, and by that I mean ANY abuse, will keep happening unless these sociopaths meet severe punishment for abusing power. But this has little chance of happening since the people in power are even worse simply because they allow such things to happen without taking action.
