If there aren't any patents, Lawyers can't be compensated. It has nothing to do with any of the companies involved. The Lawyers only make good money when they can win on of these cases.
Everything Mark says in the quote sounds exactly like it came from the early 70's. Things haven't changed as far as news/journalism go since then, they just happen quicker.
It's kind of nice when stupid people decide to take themselves out of the gene pool, however, it's really too bad they usually take out a bunch of innocent people also.
