This is the question of the moment... the president-elect and his merry crew propose rabid de-federalizing of government oversight, placing, in their minds, regulatory controls from environmental to commerce in the hands of state government bodies. But no such structures exist! I'm having trouble imagining Comcast lobbyists buying off 50 separate Communications Commissions; will Samsung need to seek type acceptance for a TV receiver from 50 different authorities?
" ... a system heavily-reliant on signatures raises some questions about the trustworthiness of that system."
Note that banks and financial institutions... think credit cards... have largely walked away from even requiring, let alone validating, signatures for transactional purposes; they want chip-and-pin or other, higher-security means.
So a scrawled signature is trusted to authorize covert surveillance... but not trusted enough to charge a latte at Starbucks.
Just out of curiosity, exactly what does "Add a Zero" mean, in a churchy context? What does it signify? And what is the potential for consumer confusion that therefore arises?
Who would have thought we'd someday miss those lowlife bastards? Something very naughty and enjoyable about that rage-and-release cycle, as they repeatedly misbehaved and then were slapped down.
Hey, he just stopped into The Tower for a friendly social call, like the Japanese Prime Minister did, so he could chat about the affairs of state with Ivanka and Jared. And like the president-elect wishes Theresa May would do, if she happens to be in the neighborhood.
"... “with the apparent purpose of monetizing the video for his own benefit, and with his later stated purpose of ‘providing satirical political comment..."
"Apparent" to Carlos, because monetization is the only possible reason to create something.
And good thing he later "stated" that satirical purpose; no one would ever have known it was parody... just an attempt to pick Carlos' pocketbook.
This would be the same NYPD anti-terrorism squad that tends to show up uninvited at hot spots around the world. And is subsequently told to pound salt.
How exactly does that "forced me" thing work? Extrajudicial, as in no court order? Rutgers campus security forces are known locally as self-important paramilitary wannabees, but thanks to some unfortunate legislation, Kampus Kops at all NJ state-affiliated colleges are vested with powers that parallel the NJ State Police. Often, that amounts to alcohol raids that result in 20-year-olds facing felony charges instead of warnings; but this is a surreal next level. (Dare we use the Gestapo word?)
Perfect approach, except for those first three words... "Simply rule that...". The Commission's chronic impotence under a supposedly favorable administration doesn't bode well for any form of regulation in the next four years.
Sorry, but TD-dwellers hate all candidates equally; there's none that could pass our idealistic muster. Unless maybe Ken White chooses to run for something...
"...we're not big fans of either choice (and don't get us started on the third parties...)..."
Amazing, isn't it, that from a pool of hundreds of millions, we couldn't field even one solid candidate. Guess we need a bigger pool! I hear that one of the candidates is planning on immediately admitting 165 million immigrants...
Doesn't look like Rule 11 is invoked, either... these are clearly frivolous lawsuits, and as the standard says, due diligence would have revealed the can't possibly be won...
Ahh, the ol' "appropriate channels" loophole. That means you're required to run a gauntlet of failed middle managers who, through inertia, internal political fear or simple idiocy, have failed to blow a few whistles of their own.
