Internal combustion engines only emit substantial amounts of Carbon Monoxide when Anonymous Cowards realize that they truly know embarassingly little and resolve themselves to run their cars inside their fully closed garages with the windows rolled down for a sufficient period of time.
...I would imagine a world without Copyright. A world without the RIAA, MPAA, BSA, et al, is -my- definition of Disneyland.
Then I would imagine a world where a Patent lasted 12 months....and all patent litigation had to be filed in Marshall, Texas, by law.
Then, for perverse entertainment value, I would imagine a world that insisted upon summary executions for Trademark infringement. (No more Bolex watches for you!)
Well, all my fantasies can't be rational, now can they?
I'm just plain tired of being treated like a criminal by the TSA.
I have Sleep Apnea. I have to travel with my CPAP machine. This is highly personal medical equipment that I would rather keep under wraps because it's MY medical condition and it's nobody elses business.
I actually got yelled at by one of these rude TSA son-of-a-bitches last time I flew out of Seatac because I apparently didn't get the TSA memo that I was supposed to take it out it's carry bag and expose it --and my medical condition-- to full public view.
I agree.
More ironically, from the Reuters love note:
"In Britain the Gowers report for the government came out against extending the 50 year copyright rule for performers, but McCreevy said there was no compelling reason why a performer should not have similar rights to a composer."
McGreedy is such a twit that it never occurs to him that there is no compelling reason why Copyright terms should be wildly longer than Patent terms.
I am now in favor of eliminating copyright altogether. I can live just fine without professional media. The democratization of content creation means that sufficient art will be produced by real artists seeking fame.
...TracFone's T's & C's mention that it is verboten to activate one of their phones with another carrier...
What do you mean -their phones-?? The purchase reciept documents this phone the purchaser's sole and complete property, not TracPhone's.
They can write T&C's till they're blue in damn face. The T&Cs aren't worth the paper they are written on in respect to the hardware. The T&Cs can ONLY effectively apply to the carrier's service.
Broadcasting, IN ANY FORM is D-E-A-D. Why? Because it is inherently arrogant and impolite to think that in this age of two way communications, that what you have to say is above or not open to rebuttal or criticism or comment.
TV is actually starting to piss me off these days precisely because I can't talk back.
So all you weenie, whiney PR people out there...start your OWN blogs and slapp your dull PR-Babblicious goo down there and if, and that a BIG -if-, anyone actually bothers to read it and takes the time to comment that your latest product/service/whatever is lame/dull/toolittle/toolate/donetodeath read it, suck it up and count your lucky stars that at least they read what you wrote.
After stepping back a bit and reflecting, it has become apparent to me this situation, along with the TSA treating everyone like criminals, new laws having to be crafted for Telco Immunity and a host of other Orwellian developments during the last 8 years, are all symptomatic of what happens when a free people lack the collective courage to aggressively take on and destroy an external threat, enemy or evil.
Lacking that resolve and courage to confront and destroy the evil they face, they inevitably turn on each other, taking and surrendering their freedoms, thus ending up morphing into the very image of the dictatorial evil they feared in the first place.
Clearly, the optimum power source for green vehicles of the future depends upon harnessing the virtually unlimited bloviating rhetoric on this subject being spewed by greenies everywhere. If we could just cork and divert 30% of this resource nationally, we could reduce oil imports a substantial amount.
I can see the little sticker on the rear of these cars now: "This car fueled by clean, but obnoxious environmentalist rhetoric."

...none of it matters because the RIAA actually does have proof of distribution (in the form of Media Sentry downloading the files).
It seems to me highly likely that Media Sentry has been granted some sort of written indemnification absolving it from copyright infringement while gathering its "evidence".
If that is true, isn't the "distribution" TO Media Sentry in fact "Authorized" and not Un-Authorized??
MediaSentry "created" the evidence by making a copy. If they were pre-authorized to make copies of RIAA covered works, no unauthorized distribution occured. Right?
