It didn't stop the Boston Bomber. It didn't stop the Ft Hood bombing. It didn't even stop the Washington shooter.
we shut down a city for Gods' sake and that wasn't what got the Tsarnaev. As soon as the police stopped their search a private citizen found the guy an hour later!
So now, our president, who supports these programs, wants to tell me that they needed these programs? NEEDED?!
No, you need a swift kick in the ass for lying to the American people. You need a better strategy than taking away the freedoms of the Constitution and only giving it to your financial backers. You need to learn from history and quit repeating it. You need to fire the people that have you wrapped around your finger as a public figure while you support their policies (looking at YOU Keith Alexander!). Finally, you need to grow a pair and face the music that the American public DOES. NOT. LIKE. BEING. SPIED. ON. BY. OUR. GOVERNMENT.
We did not sign up for constant surveillance. It didn't work for the past decade. You used drone strikes in our name and we're unhappy with that. You abused a war on an idea that was unpatriotic and created massive deaths in multiple countries. You cared more about your backers than the American people which you gave the worst debt to. You continued the Bush doctrine which essentially continued the problems that we've had since Reagan.
It's time to END IT! The internet is our global democracy, not the plaything of politicians that don't understand it. The government was created of, by, and for the people. Your surveillance is wrong, unconstitutional, and undemocratic. It cuts against political and patriotic lines and does nothing to help anything beyond the state to lose legitimacy. That is not the American way. It's the way of tyrants and dictatorship.
25 studies have found that piracy reduces digital content revenues.
Kindly share these studies since looking at the IFPI studies from 2000 to now have shown piracy to be in areas without legal alternatives, there's the Media Piracy report, and there's also the experiences of Valve in Russia, Neil Gaiman's experiences, and the reports of the UK and other countries that seem to say that publishers charging too much is the creation of the piracy issue.
There are 25% fewer musicians filing taxes as musicians in the US since Napster and those that are left make 45% less money than in 1999.
Yet, we have more artists that ignore copyright industries. Also, we have more music from independent artists. But isn't the fact that you're using the 1999 numbers means you're admitting that the RIAA was price fixing before?
After so much studying of this issue, I believe its time to recognize that the framing of it is totally wrong. We should be comparing piracy to creating a new library that is accessible to anyone.
We use piracy for exposure to new material that makes them culturally relevant. We use copyright to take down this knowledge and learning.
To create an apt analogy, consider that piracy spreads material to places that are unknown to the creators. A library works in the same manner. You might not know of who borrows bios in libraries, but they might become a fan and share that book with others.
The one commodity that this replaces is time. Do you want to invest in an artist who isn't good? How about sharing music that others might like? Such sharing is just extending a rental indefinitely. No money exchanging hands... But knowledge being shared.
Maybe it's tome to recognize that people want to create their own digital libraries with things they want instead of having someone take away those tools and resources.
Elections are always sloppy. That's not the best way to represent change. The best way is actual protest against the measures that have become the norm. SOPA was defeated by actual protest. When FDR caused austerity on the public, the people rose up because the jobs were gone and they eventually recognized that enough was enough.
People are so focused on the NSA spying that they've forgotten that the real problem is the military complex running it. The enemy is Keith Alexander who can put pressure on Democrats to fold and maintain the status quo. It's the James Clappers who can lie to the public while insulting the intelligence of the people. It's the Mike Rogers who are taunting the public to grow up and take him out of office as well as imprison him for bribery.
It's the public that's supposed to be served. Their interests, not special interests.
Can you name a single congressman who might lose their job for supporting the NSA's massive spying?
Odds are, these are people on their way out. With all of the bribery and lobbying going around, it's just become too obvious that things are about to change in a large way. I just think that people are about to get out while the getting is good.
“My background is in the Navy, and it is good to hang an admiral once in a while as an example to the others,” said Mr. Blair, who left the administration in 2010. “We were hoping to get somebody and make people realize that there are consequences to this and it needed to stop.”
Mike, this should really disturb people...
The Roman empire had a word for just such a way to fix leaks. It was called "decimation". In it, you had 10 soldiers that formed a phalanx (?) essentially draw straws. The shortest one would lose. The "winners" killed the "losers" or faced decimation themselves. This was to ensure discipline in the tanks and out worked horribly. Morale fell quickly and you could only hold the units together through fear for so long before they were exhausted.
These people are not friends to the US. They are manipulating the country for power.
Their names are already public record. So what they're fighting for is actually meaningless. I know there's articles describing the people giving the DoJ information. So to tell me that it should be withheld who had a hand in prosecuting Aaron is telling me that they'd like to hide this under the rug and avoid the consequences of their own actions.
But, on the whole, the trends are pretty clear: greater revenue, greater profits. But we keep getting told that those companies need the government to step in and save them?
That's been the point for the last 30 years. Use taxpayer money to make a small group rich while others have no choice but to work on new innovations at a slower pace.
That doesn't mean much. The game industry usually goes to the cheapest system with the largest fanbase. The Nintendo, Super NES, Playstation, PS2, and Wii kind of show that we shouldn't look at hardware specs to see what people want.
The Smash community has been building for the last 10 years. Maybe Nintendo wanted to see them play the newest game, but people won't do it.
They've already been playing the game for a while so of course they aren't going to just take it kindly that ANY corporation would tell them they can't do something.
It's the same feudal response about if it works against you, it's not the free market, but if it works to your benefit, it's the McCartney that gains the credit.
Until we can eliminate (or at least seriously reduce) corruption, cronyism, and the corrosive influence of money in politics, any other "good faith" attempt to reform government would be an exercise in futility.
You can't take those away from capitalism. Gods knows Keynes tried that and he balked at actual Marxism. The thing is, Marx understood the problems of capitalism because he lived it. His ideas and theories advanced Adam Smith's incomplete knowledge of capitalism (BTW, Smith and Keynes were big in school, but didn't see the results).
What you see is the systemic output of the capitalist system.
Aside from some differences of opinion on some "key" issues (which mostly just serve to divide the country, but that's another topic), it's rather hard to tell one party apart from the other in any significant way.
It's very important to realize that the three main neoclassical ideologies are "liberal", "libertarian", and "conservative".
Liberals believe in more government power to regulate the market.
Libertarians believe in social progressivism but they take a more conservative fiscal stance.
Conservatives believe in the efficiency of the private market.
The problem with all three is when they all eventually lead to crony capitalism compared to actual left wing economics.
A lot of people might believe in "laissez-faire" economics based on Adam Smith's analysis but that ignores his main arguments that can equate to "Beware the capitalist" or rather the mercantilists that were his rival. It ignores that the government's main job is to protect the public.
That can indeed work when you have a number of minority groups that coalesce to harm people. Some key examples would be the government and Civil Rights or women's rights.
I don't agree that the government should just be small. I'd rather our government be effective, answerable to the people instead of the largest wallet.
Conservatives and liberals have a lot in common. Since both are neoclassical ideologies, they have to be pushed leftward similar to FDR being pushed in the 1930s.
There's going to be a counter to all of this. There's too much steam boiling the frogs. All it needs is a spark.
