Nope, I got it. You were drawing a parallel with the burning of bras during the woman's rights movement. Woot! I was saying that the burning of CDs and all that plastic is a toxic smoke monster and that the environmentalists would be upset at such a concept. And then how could the hippies make all those nifty wind chimes that they sell on their way to Burning Man.
Considering the vast number of people who could have turned around and used the newly public work and turn it into some fantastic isn't $80,000 per item a little low? Lets play a hypothetical math game for one moment. Since every download = lost sale then we should be able to take every person which has now lost access to this work as a missed opportunity. For the fun of it we can use the United States and lets just say that 300,000,000 of us were going to do something with each one of the items that just had their copyright extended. Using your 80,000 figure I would have to say that the content industry now owes the American people 24,000,000,000,000 for the privilege of extending copyright.
Considering the slippery slope which we find ourselves on with "free speech" on the internet, I am beginning to wonder once this legislation or legislation like this does get passed. How long before the "infringing" activity goes from downloading the latest episode of House to acts like simply discussing the impact that laws like this have on freedom itself. With the ever tightening grip given to the content industry seems like it would only be a matter of time before people begin to attack sites like Techdirt for even suggesting that what they are doing is wrong.
I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by this. He is only saying what the entertainment industry paid him to say. Just like Dodd he is probably setting himself up to make a killing as the head of some entertainment lobbying group when he retires from congress.
I was at Home Depot the other day buying a hammer and as soon as I walked out the front door an ATF agent confiscated it due to the potential for it to make loud BANGING sounds.
You are now no better than the crazy guy who drives around a neighborhood with a ruler making sure that my grass is within the correct height or that my trashcan has been removed from the curb by 8 PM on trash day.
Its age does not mitigate its relevancy to the continuing discussion of why Sony is doing themselves more harm than good by perusing this egregious action against its users.
While true, perhaps he is just another keyboard guy for his current company and the Playstation job could have been a good promotion for him. Working for Sony R&D would be a nice little bullet on a resume for sure.
(sets down kool-aid), My you are up early this morning. Mike highlights another person who happens to be a programmer that turned down a job with Sony based on his principles, and how Sony has gone after another programmer relentlessly for modifying a piece of hardware the he PURCHASED. I for one think that is admirable as I think that most people are for sale its just a matter of how much they will get paid. Where the piracy argument and IP enforcement come in is anyones guess. I really do not see how this is different then me taking my truck in to get a super charger or have the ECU remapped to squeeze out some more horsepower.
She doesn't know the golden rule. If she actually saved that money and invested it wisely then she wouldn't need to grades per se she could simply pay for it, and we all know how colleges love money.
I have not a clue where in that statement he called the league out for anything. He made a statement similar to what many fans all over the US and abroad have done when a ref makes a bad call or feels that the ref made a bad call. I to have scorned NFL ref Ed Hochuli numerous times for his botched call during a Chargers Broncos game which the Chargers SHOULD HAVE WON!! Just sayin.
