This is just like the Satanic Panic of the 1980's. Due to the fact I have Autism, I went to a special education school for most of my life, and I have got to know people with Tourette's syndrome. It's absurd in the extreme to think it's contagious in any way the same way, say, AIDS or COVID is, because it's not: it's something with which one is born, not something one acquires.
This is just stupid yellow journalists looking for clickbait and disinforming (I think that word applies, because thinking someone can acquire Tourette's syndrome after decades of research should earn someone the reputation of trolling rather than earnest inquest) rather than informing.
The problem with Royal Road (having checked it out), is that it leaves it up to the authors whether or not they want to publish their works as EPUBs (which could then be converted into Kindle MOBI/AZW format). It just makes the e-books I want to read fewer in number as I only have the option of reading from the website, or risk getting banned from Royal Road should I sign in.
There are good publishers out there who publish DRM-free tomes, such as PM Press, Baen Sci-fi, Unbound (a publisher who funds via crowdfunding), and even Tor (though it is am imprint of MacMillan).
I, too have gone cold turkey for any e-book that has DRM in it (otherwise I buy just the physical book and usually the audiobook if it is DRM-free as well from sites such as Libro.fm and downpour.
Or it could be that they're trying to build political capital for votes based on moral panics, just like the moral crusaders of the past like Joe Lieberman on violent video games.
What the prosecutors did could be comparable (if far less violent and deadly) to getting Saddam Hussein to give up his weapons of mass destruction. That is, you can't make someone relinquish what they don't have, and if you do, it is you who is the Barbarian, not the victim.
The only Blizzard game I played was Rock 'n Roll Racing (and a tiny bit of Overwatch), so I on a personal level was never that attracted to Blizzard. That being said, if DQ ever sued the Blizzard-Activision, I'll be going to Orville Redenbacher's factory.
I have gathered all seven of the Dragon Balls, and I hereby wish that you would post the Brian Kavanaugh copypasta to preëmpt the likely Koby bullshit.
I think you're looking through the past through rose-colored spectacles, my good friend. See, there were always those suckers in NYC and people willing to swindle them. See:
-Charles Ponzi
-Bernie Madoff
-George C. Parker
and I'm just scratching the surface of the tip of the iceberg. While change is pretty much a constant in NYC's life, it's also true that a constant of NYC is that there are con men willing to prey on the good will of other people. Hell, the island of Manhattan was bought by Peter Minuit for 60 guilders, which is about $1,143 in 2020 dollars. That's less than a month's rent in a studio apartment in Manhattan nowadays! So cheating people is kinda what we do around here.
Finally, the Biden Administration is doing its fucking job! Rosenworcel may not be the first pick, but neither was Tom Wheeler when it came to net neutrality (John Oliver infamously called him a "Dingo"). Still, Tom Wheeler did bring Net Neutrality to fruition. If we push Rosenworcel, she may be able to reverse the evil that Ajit Pai did.
Also, I have this policy of having a spare ink cartridge on standby should my printer run out of ink and buy another one (usually at Staples) after I swap them out. I think that's why I never seem to have the plaintiff's problem.
That's not to say the plaintiff is without merit, though.
To be honest, I found Canon printers extremely reliable (as in, they lasted the longest and don't seem to break down on me for the longest time), so this is shocking to me that they'd do an anti-consumer move like this. But I guess if the claims of the lawsuit are true, then even a company like Canon has their Achilles' Heels.
