And also distracting people from how crap his government have been on the economy and the issue of how his party is funded.
What amuses me about these conservative governments is that they claim to be all about smaller government. They say that they want to minimise government intrusion into people's lives but they want to monitor and control everything we do on the Internet.
This is just one example of how incompetent his government has been.
If he does get elected president, he will just change his position. That is what politicians do, they say what is necessary to get elected and then do the opposite when in office.
Well, you will elect a new President in 2016 as Obama's two terms will be up but in all likelihood it will be someone from one of the two main parties who will simply toe the corporate party line. Nothing will change. If you want things to change you need to look outside the Democrat and Republican parties.
The public have been actively misled by government officials over a whole lot of issues not just in the US but also in the UK.
From constant massaging (to put it nicely) of figures to make the government look like what they are doing is best for the country to outright lies to justify ideological policies (Ian Duncan Smith, I am looking at you).
Governments lie and mislead the public, that is what they do. What do you think is the real reason for trying to censor and control the Internet?
$200 million movies are irrelevant. The best movies I have ever seen have had a fraction of that budget because they actually focus on what is important - story, acting, direction etc.
They said the same about small British car company Nobel when they started up going head to head with Porsche. They are still going and their cars get great reviews in various car magazines.
It is not unheard of for a small start up to stand toe to toe with the big boys and hold their own.
Whatever you think of Ubuntu/Canonical/Shuttleworth, you have got to admire the man's ambition.
Rather than resting on his laurels he is taking risks, and trying to break into new markets. I love the prospect of an Ubuntu powered phone/tablet and will be following the project with anticipation. Anything that can break into the market enjoyed by the big 3 can only be a good thing.
Out of curiosity (and to prove a point) I did a search on StartPage (powered by Google search results) for "child porn" and all of the results that were returned were news stories and wiki articles.
Clearly the search engines have already blocked child abuse images from their search results. What more does Cameron want from them?

Let's call a spade, a spade. It is child abuse content.

Post the studies that show how cases of rape tend to go down where pornography is freely available.

As do I. I am not on Facebook because I made a choice not to be. I do not use Google services because I made a choice not to.
Can I say the same thing about NSA surveillance (or GCHQ in the UK)? No, I cannot.
